Administrator access

De-Invincible@ffwikipedia

Hello, I would like to request for a new permanent adminship right as my current 1 year adminship status on Fulfulde Wikipedia is expiring on 27/06/2024. Thank you for your help and considerations. De-Invincible (talk) 06:54, 24 June 2024 (UTC)

On hold until 1 July 2024. EPIC (talk) 14:18, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
Done Granted for 1 year to expire on 2025-07-01. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks.
Note that ffwiki is not currently large enough for permanent admins, but I'm doing another one year term here. EPIC (talk) 16:51, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Flaverius@ndswiki

Hello everyone! The Low Saxon Wikipedia has no currently acitve administrator. The admin and bureaucrat Slomox last edit was 22. April 2023. The other Admin User:Iwoelbern wasn’t active since 03. December 2023.

I nominated myself as a admin (see above) to prevent vandalism, so that the small wiki team don’t need to look after that wiki and to get some maintenace work done, including moving pages back that were worngfully moved, editing protected pages etc.

After the three weeks period for votes is over now, I got one vote in favour from the only other active user at the moment Easfrisian. No one else participated. According to the nds.wiki-rules an admin needs three votes in total to be eleceted. Unforutnately there aren’t even three active users rightnow. I tried to reach out to the admins over e-Mail, but didn’t get any reaction.

Threfore I request temporary administrator status for the nds.wiki here. --Flaverius (talk) 10:47, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi, like you mentioned, ndswiki has a bureaucrat. If possible we want to leave the task of adding administrators to local bureaucrats if there are any. I'm emailing them and will come back here in a week to process this if there has still been no response since then. EPIC (talk) 13:52, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
Just as a note, I will continue to keep this on hold for a short while as this is currently being discussed on the stewards' mailing list, main reason being that the local bureaucrat has not responded but has continued to actively edit elsewhere. However, I will process this if there are no objections to doing so. EPIC (talk) 03:43, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
Done Granted for 6 months to expire on 2025-01-04. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks.
There were no objections on the stewards' mailing list, so I have granted the rights since we shouldn't have to delay this any further than it already has been. Unfortunately, as this request is handled by the stewards and not by the local bureaucrat, due to MVR I cannot grant you a permanent adminship as the discussion did not reach five votes in favor, but given the amount of votes after four weeks I am granting you a temporary adminship for six months. If Slomox happens to respond in the future, they can feel free to extend it to permanent if they find it appropriate. EPIC (talk) 03:58, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

Cactusisme@bugwiki

Hi, I would like to apply as a temporary admin at bugwiki. The Wikipedia currently has 0 admins and I would be doing a lot of work there. I have submitted request at the community portal there. With this admin rights I would be able to fix the mess there as there is only a tiny portion of active editors there. This would also reduce the workload of the Small Wiki Monitoring Team. Hopefully this would be granted. Thank you. Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 10:24, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Your account is a little more than a month old, and you currently have 4 edits on the project (all of them having been made today), as well as a CU block at one wiki. This needs internal discussion. In either case  On hold until 3 July 2024 as the discussion needs to be open for at least one week. EPIC (talk) 13:34, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

If there are no admins, things are handled by the global sysops. People can make requests here. Ternera (talk) 13:01, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
Correct, but on a second note, generally requests sent to this page don't need participation but stewards can choose still decline some requests that have gotten no participation under some circumstances. EPIC (talk) 13:09, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I have been a temp admin on Buryat Wikipedia for many years, back from a hiatus now. There aren't that many active users at the moment, but the previous admin has supported my candidacy. There is no admin at the moment, and I expect there will be a need for an admin since google released their new Buryat machine translation tool.Edler von Udinium 12:47, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

الناجم العاجم@arwikiversity

Hello everyone! I am requesting administrator access on Arabic Wikiversity for my second mandate (my first was in 2020). Please note that for local and historical reasons the voting is for both permissions: Administrator and Interface Administrator («إداري وإداري واجهة»), as mentioned in the title and the body of the local discussion. I have also put in a second request in the section of interface administrator access. Thanks in advance, الناجم العاجم (talk) 18:04, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

Ariandi Lie@suwiki

I submitted this request again following the advice of one of the Stewards that my previous request had been on the local wiki for more than 6 months and I had re-submitted the request to become an administrator on Suwiki for the second time.

My motivation for to become a suwiki administrator is still the same as my previous request: to carry out neglected administrator tasks where the current administrators are rarely active and carry out their duties as administrators (this can be seen at this page, imports several pages from idwiki to implement in suwiki. I am also an administrator at idwiki.

That is my request for the second time. I hope it can be done. Thank You. Ariandi Lie Talk with me 00:25, 5 July 2024 (UTC) Ariandi Lie Talk with me 00:25, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Given that there has still been no response or action from Kumincir more than three weeks after I sent them an email I am granting the rights. Since there are no votes I unfortunately cannot grant a permanent adminship, but I'm granting for three months in accordance with MVR with a note that the local bureaucrat can extend to permanent if they find it appropriate. (I see two oppose votes but since both of them had a full discussion and there is an overall consensus I think we are fine with granting the rights here) EPIC (talk) 04:02, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
Correction: We had three valid opposing votes, not just two as User:红渡厨 opposed the adminship on June 21, crossed it out later, then resumed the opposition on June 27. Our local admin User:Midleading closed the vote as 7 supports, 3 oppositions and 1 neutral on July 5.--Jusjih (talk) 13:40, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the notice, my mistake. I did not that the opposition was resumed (the vote was placed in an indented reply thus why it was not visible to me). I still think we are fine them keeping the rights here as 1) all (valid) opposing votes had a discussion and 2) it's a small wiki. I don't mind removing the rights if e.g. the wiki has a specific support requirement or similar. EPIC (talk) 14:26, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Zulf@Suwiki

I volunteered as an administrator at Suwiki because of lack of attention, I saw that Suwiki was neglected and I saw that there were many global administrators who were involved in handling Suwiki. But it would be better if an administrator at Suwiki understood it more deeply because Sundanese is complicated and you can't always use tools to translate it. I'm a native speaker and I'm Sundanese so of course that would be a better thing. and I contacted the bureaucrat but yes he was not active. so I asked here. I hope it will be granted, because I am a user with a fairly good reputation in the Indonesian Wikimedia project. Such as being on the committee in selecting idwiki administrators and it seems like there are a lot of suwiki repair tasks from idwiki. Thank You
🍃Zulf🍃talk 12:44, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

@Zulf:, the request is three months old? Leaderboard (talk) 12:56, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Not done Sorry but I have to close this request for the same reason I closed this request. The discussion was opened three months ago and is unfortunately too old in our standards at this point. EPIC (talk) 14:02, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Peaceearth@zhwikinews

Peathearth's temporary adminship will be expiring tomorrow. He has been granted tempoary sysop flag twice before (under his old username 和平奮鬥救地球, in 2020 and 2022), each for a period of two years. The local community has a consensus that permanent flag should be granted. Much appreciate if Stewards could grant the flag accordingly considering his long-term service and local consensus. Thanks. HW (talk) 03:28, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

Done I assigned the flag permanently this time since the rights have been held in the past (both permanently and temporarily) without bigger problems, and there seems to be enough votes from users involved in the project to support that. Good luck! EPIC (talk) 08:21, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

Oversight access

Removal of access

Vito Genovese@trwiki

Posting here for transparency; as per Oversight policy#Removal of access, I have removed oversighter rights from Vito Genovese@trwiki as per more one year of global inactivity. Last edit at 2023-03-03 10:03, last logged action at 2023-03-02 20:57. EPIC (talk) 07:54, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi, per my email exchange with EPIC, I am leaving this quick note to let the record show that I am actively on my account and in full control of it, just not editing at the moment. As the policy intends to prevent the risks associated with unattended accounts, I believe we are safe here. Additionally, the local policy to get the access is only through an RfO, something that I am not willing to go through at this time, so the removal would only serve to prevent my potential work on this front. I would therefore appreciate it if a reinstatement could be considered. Thank you!
Vito Genovese 18:43, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
I'm not sure whether the rights can be reinstated at this point; I will leave this to another steward. In the meantime I will place this request on hold to prevent archiving. EPIC (talk) 15:43, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Appreciate it! I have a couple additional points that I would be happy to share with the steward that looks into this case, which I am not willing to share publicly. Please drop me a line if you see fit. Thank you!
Vito Genovese 18:44, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Access was correctly removed in accordance with policy. — JJMC89(T·C) 01:17, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi JJMC89, thanks for weighing in. One point: I have never disputed the policy-compatibility of the action. It is unquestionably in line with the current wording. My plea is rather to go for the spirit of the policy, which I believe aims to tackle cases of account vulnerability that emerges when accounts with advanced rights do not get used or "deserted," if you will. In my case, however, I have been fully active (or, for the lack of a better term, online) but not editing due to reasons forcing this some time ago. The account has been safe all along.
The policy in question has slipped my mind, honestly, and had there been some sort of a notification or a reminder beforehand, I would certainly have taken action to prevent it. If I had edited a couple of days before the steward action, this was in fact going to be the case.
The reason I am asking for a reversion to be considered is that the current rules dictate that I would need to go through a fresh RfO on the local wiki, which is not an option at this point in time for reasons that are tied to me not editing at the moment. At the end of the day it becomes a mere technicality whether I had a chance to edit before the action or not, and in my opinion there is merit in following the spirit of the policy. There is nothing to gain from this otherwise.
Vito Genovese 13:05, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
I know Vito Genovese from trwiki. To prevent his rights from being taken away from trwiki, he logs into his account once and disappears. He no longer cares about Wikipedia as much as he used to and has not used his rights on trwiki for a long time. The stewards did the right thing. 151.135.14.189 13:44, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
@Vito Genovese:, the problem with your line of reasoning is twofold: (i) others can make the same argument and (ii) once removed, stewards won't put it back except if it's a clear error. Not to mention that the whole point of an inactivity policy is to prelude inactive users - like yourself. Leaderboard (talk) 14:07, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Admins@swwiki

Hello there. We have come to an understanding that the following users' rights will be stripped away. The reason behind being inactive one of them died last year. See discussion here

  1. User:Kipala - died 2023
  2. User:Sj - inactive
  3. User:Manguboy - inactive
  4. User:Ndesanjo - inactive

Thanks!User:Muddyb (Talk) 07:29, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

@Muddyb: For Kipala this was Done in October last year. Regarding the other three, does swwiki have an inactivity policy or similar? Otherwise I don't know if one day of discussion is enough to remove the rights. EPIC (talk) 07:34, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
No. I don't think so. But as whole community we've agreed to remove user rights if he/she did not contribute over one year. Also, you are right you can wait till tomorrow to have votes from another contributors. User:Muddyb (Talk) 07:45, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. I read on the local information page about administrators "Mkabidhi ambaye hajahariri kwa miezi 12 anaondolewa haki zake za ukabidhi; akirudi anaweza kurudishwa kwa mapatano ya wakabidhi waliopo" (which translates to "The assignor who has not edited for 12 months is deprived of his assignment rights; if he returns, he can be returned with the agreement of the present assignors"). Isn't this an inactivity policy? If not then yes, I will keep this on hold for some more time. EPIC (talk) 07:55, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
You've got it right. In that case, those mentioned above there is no way they'll be able to return. Especially Sj and Ndesanjo. User:Muddyb (Talk) 08:02, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, then Done for all with thanks for their service. Like mentioned Kipala's rights was already removed some months ago (since it's our standard practice for deceased users), they still have some local user rights remaining although those can be removed by local bureaucrats and administrators.
