Please describe the kind of cross wiki abusive activity you see from the IP or account. Saying an IP or account is a long term abuser is not helpful, but saying "IP vandalizes at ban.wikipedia, no.wikipedia and vi.wikipedia" is. This is especially important for range blocks. If you do not provide enough details, your request might be declined.

CptViraj I see that the TorBlock is enabled on this wiki, per Special:Version. I assume this is enabled on most if not all wikis. Thus, since this is a Tor exit node, shouldn't this already be blocked from anonymous editing and account creation by way of this extension? Dmehus (talk) 22:54, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Antwort
@Dmehus: Hi. I wasn't aware of the extension. I had seen stewards blocking Tor nodes so I decided to report this one. But see, the extension is also enabled on the English Wikipedia but a edit was still made from the range in 2020, see en:Special:Contributions/2A0B:F4C0:16C:0:0:0:0:0/48. -- CptViraj (talk) 17:55, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Antwort

Hi, 2a01:4f8:c17:3e93::1 is the IPv6 equivalent of 78.47.150.64, the server of mine where I operate Wikimedia bots from. I can confirm that it won't be used as OpenProxy, could you please unblock it? Ferdi2005 Though I'm not as active on the Wikimedia wikis, I do follow the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel, and this thread caught my attention. I believe, since this is a web host/colocation provider IP address, it's quite unlikely to be unblocked globally by Wikimedia stewards, per NOP. If you operate approved Wikimedia bots on one or more Wikimedia wikis, I think the better venue for this request would be to request a global IP exemption (and very likely local IP block exemption(s)) for your bot account. @Dmehus:. But that IP corresponds only to my server (it isn't a web host. I'ts a VPS server) and I operate also an OAuth bot, so ad hoc IP extemptions won't work. The IPv4 has already been unlocked in July, but now there's also IPv6. I'll notice stewards when and if I stop using this IP (for instance, because I change VPS provider)--Ferdi2005[Mail] 16:44, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Antwort
Ah, if it's a dedicated IP address assigned only to your VPS server, I'm not certain what the preferred practice is in this case, but since the entire range is blocked globally, it's sort of a block all or nothing approach (at least globally). That being said, globalblock-whitelist user right exists, to which, at least on this wiki, Meta administrators can be requested to whitelist specific IPs, presumably with a very valid use case. However, because this is done locally, you'd still be in the scenario of having to request this locally on wikis where your approved bot operates. Personally, I would think the global IP block exemption/local IP block exemption(s) would probably still be the preferred practice, but I guess we will have to see what Stewards recommend here. Is there anything I could ask locally on Wikimedia Commons? It's there that the oAuth app makes edit on various users' behalf. In the other projects, only a single user is used. @Dmehus and Billinghurst:--Ferdi2005[Mail] 20:36, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Antwort
But if the bot account is editing whilst logged in, why wouldn't an IP block exemption (global and local) not suffice? The idea you've proposed, globally unblocking the single IP then reblocking the range in two ranges, excepting that one IP address, seems rather convoluted. You seem to have articulated a decent use case for IP block exemptions for your bot account, so that seems the way to go, to be honest. Dmehus (talk) 21:05, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
In terms of the OAuth comment, looking at Special:ListGroupRights, it seems that registered users have all the user rights needed to propose or update OAuth consumers, so there shouldn't be any user rights issues getting in the way. In order words, it seems to strictly be the IP block issue. Per this page, it looks like all you need to do is put this template on the user talk page of your bot account, or your main account, provided you link to a diff where you've confirmed that was your main account, stating your reason for the local IP block exemption. It may be helpful to additionally link to the permalink to this thread. However, that only deals with the local IP block. You would need to go to SRGP first. Hope this helps. Actually, looking at this page, that IP address isn't locally blocked on Wikimedia Commons. Thus, as of right now, you'd only need to request the global exemption at SRGP. Dmehus (talk) 21:16, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Antwort
Looking at this local global block log action, it looks like Sakretsu has already disabled that global block locally, so if it's just Wikimedia Commons, you shouldn't be effected in any way. Dmehus (talk) 21:20, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Jeff G.: It is not the purpose to put the interests of domestic users behind those of spambots. So asking for a block of a /32 without duration, without evidence, without a finer view of the issue is problematic. There are other means to manage spambots and I am not seeing you dealing with this in areas where we can address spambots. My alternative accounts, including VT Bot and Sheldon Cooper, is have a positive edits on Turkish Wikipedia and own account has contributed to various Wikimedia project. Hello. I think something went wrong with the block. The user explicitly requested his side profile to be banned (which was later determined as a sock?). Elshad Iman is an experienced and helpful user; admins (including me) has given him certain privileges based on his contributions. There might be reasons to block him from a particular Wikimedia project, but as for azwiki, I think the otherwise. Please, reconsider the global block decision.
