Gogglebox fans have been left ‘screaming’ over Jenny Newby and Lee Riley’s startling similarity to new British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
TikTok users joked ‘the biggest mystery of our times has been solved’ after account @Ellierew pointed out the Labour leader’s could be the Channel 4 friends’ love child.
Gogglebox viewers quipped they would never be able to look at Jenny and Lee again over the uncanny resemblance, with @Aziz saying: ‘This can never be unseen! Now that we know, we know!’
Echoing their sentiment, @Reya exclaimed: ‘IM SCREAMING THATS SO ACCURATE.’
@Finglefongle joked: ‘Now think have you ever seen all these three in the same room? bruuuhhhhh.’
@Paige also added: ‘This just connected a wire in my brain.’
Even Jenny and Lee commented on their likeness to Sir Keir, 61, on Instagram, resharing the TikTok post and remarking alongside a slew of laughing emojis: ‘Really.’
For the avoidance of doubt, Sir Keir’s parents are Josephine Starmer (née Baker) and Rodney Starmer. He was the second of their four children.
His mum was a nurse and his dad worked as a toolmaker, but Josephine was forced to give up her job after being diagnosed with Still’s Disease, an autoimmune condition.
Both of his parents have died; his mother shortly before he was elected to parliament in 2015, and his father in 2018.
Starmer has previously spoken of his regret at not being close with his father, who he described as ‘difficult’ and ‘complicated’.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, he said his dad would work for 14-hour days, coming home ‘for his tea’ at 5pm before returning to work after an hour.
But he also said his dad had an ‘utter devotion and commitment’ to his mum.
Meanwhile, Jenny and Lee, who have known each other for 30 years now, first met when he became a customer at her pub and have been ‘best friends ever since’.
They joined Gogglebox box in 2014 and film their segments from Lee’s caravan in Hull, with Jenny also moving in during the pandemic to continue filming for the show.
She eventually moved back in with her husband Ray, while Lee lives with Steve, his partner of nearly three decades.
Although Jenny once said she was a ‘big fan’ of Gogglebox ‘right from the beginning’, Lee said he initially turned down the offer to appear but was eventually convinced by his friend.
