A mother-of-six has died after being found unconscious with a serious head injury by a train track in Suffolk.

Anita Rose was found with a serious head injury near Rectory Lane, in Brantham, shortly after 8am on Wednesday.

The 57-year-old was attacked while walking her dog.

She was rushed to hospital and spent three days there, fighting for her life, before succumbing to her wounds on Sunday morning.

A man aged 45 who was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder has since been re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

Anita’s family paid a tribute to her in a statement released by police, saying that they have been ‘robbed of so much time with her’.

It said: ‘Our mum was well known and loved in the community. She was brutally taken from us devastatingly too early, and we have been robbed of so much time with her.

‘She wasn’t just a mum of six, she was also a grandma to 13, a long-term partner, a mother-in-law and a special friend to so many.

‘Someone somewhere must know something, and we urge them to come forward. We want to thank everyone for their love and support.

‘All we ask is for everyone to cherish their time with their family and loved ones.’

It is not believed the suspect and Anita were known to each other.

According to detectives, Anita left her home around 5am to take her springer spaniel dog, named Bruce, for a walk.

She was found by a member of the public lying on a track road near the sewage works and railway line around 6.25am, and an ambulance was called.

Anita was then taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Police have released an image of Anita, taken on the morning of the incident from a doorbell camera, in an appeal to trace her mobile phone and a pink zip-up jacket.
