Early Hours can mean a few different things: Are you winding down after being up all night, or are you just rising to meet the sun? For this edition of Apple Music's exclusive Early Hours DJ mix series, helmed by Japanese producer Takahide Higuchi (better known as Foodman), the inspiration was those first dawn hours after waking. “The first half of the mix is very gentle,” he tells Apple Music. “The middle is more experimental and danceable, but rather than moving the body, I imagined it as a way to wake up the brain and face oneself. I aimed to create a mix that would awaken your consciousness and make you feel refreshed and ready for the day.” Among his favourite selections are Yumi Arai’s “On the Street of My Home Town / Umareta Machi De”: “I will never forget how I felt when I first heard this song in the morning,” he says.
