About Ezra Koenig
Indie all-star Ezra Koenig made his mark as the frontman of art-pop darlings Vampire Weekend, but his credits extend far beyond the Grammy-winning band. Alongside a few fellow Columbia University grads, the New York City native (born in 1984) formed Vampire Weekend in 2006. With their 2008 self-titled debut, the band’s heady, highbrow, Afropop-infused hooks quickly threw them into the spotlight. Koenig and company kept that momentum going with two more increasingly baroque, experimental albums. But by 2015, with the band in a sort of hiatus, Koenig focused his energy on a number of other projects, including Time Crisis, his fortnightly radio show on Apple Music in which he dissects pop culture, politics and corporate food history with both humour and insight. He also worked with Beyoncé (on the defiant “Hold Up”), wrote a series for Netflix (the animé-inspired Neo Yokio) and contributed to the Peter Rabbit soundtrack with the heartwarming “I Promise You”. In 2019, he returned with Vampire Weekend for Father of the Bride, a mesmerising exploration of Koenig’s ever-growing musical influences and ever-incisive way with words.
