Overstock Ex-CEO Must Face Dominion Voting Defamation Claims

Former Overstock chief executive officer Patrick Byrne lost his bid to escape a lawsuit alleging he defamed Dominion Voting Systems Inc. in connection with the 2020 presidential election, after a federal court in D.C. said the election technology company had adequately alleged he made provably false statements.

Patrick Byrne promoted conspiracy theories asserting that Joe Biden’s win over Donald Trump was fraudulent. Dominion alleged he made 18 defamatory public statements regarding the company and its role in that election and others.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia denied Byrne’s motion to dismiss the suit Wednesday.
