It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Sifiso Dabengwa, a respected member of the MTN family, who devoted 16 years to our company, serving as the former CEO of MTN Nigeria. Sifiso was more than a leader; he was a visionary whose contributions have profoundly shaped our organization. His presence brought light and laughter to all who had the privilege of knowing him. We are immensely grateful to Sifiso and his family for the dedication and commitment he showed to MTN. His legacy will continue to inspire us, and his memory will remain a guiding force in our journey forward. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time.

Today, we unveiled the 20 athletes who will be part of Team MTN Nigeria at the Making of Champs (MoC) Athletics Academy, where they will be trained for one year and equipped to become professional athletes. At the academy, they will have opportunities for collegiate scholarships in the United States and Jamaica (two countries that are well known for their exploits in athletics). We launched MTN Champs in 2023 as part of our commitment to grassroots sports development in Nigeria. We have invested and continued to invest in football through our partnership with the NFF and NPFL, but other sports equally deserve concerted and deliberate interventions for their development. This understanding informed our partnership with MAKING OF CHAMPIONS LTD to drive MTN Champs. MTN Champs provides a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and dream big. We’ve witnessed the participation of over 15,000 athletes across 900 secondary schools, with representation from 30 states in the country. Our goal is simple: to raise future Olympians and medalists. We’re proud of the feats we have attained in one year. Six of our ambassadors have gone on to compete during the African Games and won medals. Eight of our ambassadors participated in the just concluded 2024 Paris Olympics with shot-putter Chukwuebuka Enekwechi becoming the second-best African finisher in the shot-put event. We are confident that the next set of Olympians will come from the 20 that have made it to the MOC Academy where they will be trained and prepared for an endless world of possibilities. We are proud of the work that we do in MTN. Congratulations Champs!
