France to Host the 2025 Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit! 🌍 The Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit is the flagship international conference on global nutrition hosted every four years by the host country of the Olympics and Paralympics. France hosts the upcoming N4G on 27-28 March 2025 in Paris. ATNI (Access to Nutrition Initiative) is one of two official international advisors along with the The Global Nutrition Report, working with the N4G organizers. In addition, ATNI, the Paris Peace Forum and GAIN are co-chairing N4G’s Private Sector Working Group. Moreover, ATNI’s Executive Director, Greg S Garrett, is a member of the Independent Expert Panel on Nutrition. The N4G Summit will elevate nutrition as a key development agenda and accelerate progress against malnutrition. It will do this by bringing together governments, international organizations, philanthropies, businesses, NGOs and other key stakeholders at a global and regional level to share successes and make new commitments for nutrition. 🌏World Breastfeeding Week 2024- Breastfeeding support varies greatly around the world, influenced by cultural norms and corporate practices. ATNI’s 2024 Indexes assess marketing practices in five key countries: China, Germany, Indonesia, Viet Nam, and the US. These regions represent diverse markets where the impact of BMS and CF marketing is significant. Our index captures each of the 20 companies assessed on the BMS and CF Marketing Indexes in at least one of their primary baby food markets, representing between 10% and 100% of their estimated global baby food market share, including BMS and CF products. Understanding these marketing practices is vital for ensuring that all caregivers receive the support they need to breastfeed successfully. World Breastfeeding Week 2024- Complementary Foods Supporting Healthy Growth Complementary foods are essential as infants transition to solid foods, but marketing these products requires careful consideration. ATNI’s 2024 Complementary Foods Index evaluates how 10 major companies promote these products, assessing their compliance with WHO recommendations. As our first standalone Index on complementary foods, it builds on over a decade of experience in assessing compliance with the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes. Our findings underscore the importance of responsible marketing practices that support continued breastfeeding while introducing complementary foods at the right time. World Breastfeeding Week 2024: The Role of BMS Marketing in Breastfeeding Did you know that 61% of noncompliance in breast-milk substitute (BMS) marketing happens on digital platforms? The marketing of BMS plays a crucial role in influencing caregivers' choices, often discouraging breastfeeding. ATNI’s 2024 BMS Index evaluates leading companies' policies and practices, revealing their adherence to the WHO Code and other guidelines. Our findings highlight the growing influence of digital marketing in the rise of BMS and complementary foods (CF). While some companies have made progress since 2021 with updated policies and improved practices, none of the 18 companies assessed fully align with the WHO Code. By shining a light on these practices, we hold companies accountable and push for ethical marketing that supports breastfeeding.
