Reflecting on last Friday's gathering in Barcelona. Last week saw the opening of Manifesta Biennial 15 in Barcelona, attracting quite a few art professionals to the city. andrea rodriguez novoa (Co-Director of Barcelona Gallery Weekend) and our director Martina Halsema decided to spontaneously organise a casual drinks event for local, Dutch, Spanish, and international art professionals. It was a delightful gathering where we had the opportunity to meet, network, and toast. Thank you The Social Hub, Frank Uffen, and Maria Jesus Guirado for your hospitality and hosting us on your lovely rooftop! Barcelona Gallery Weekend 19–22 Sep 2024 & Amsterdam Art Week 21–25 May 2025

Over ons
Amsterdam Art is a non-profit umbrella organization for contemporary visual arts. It initiates and realizes collaborations between various of the leading cultural parties in Amsterdam and promotes their exhibition programs throughout the year. Its main event is the annual Amsterdam Art Weekend. Amsterdam Art Weekend is the event to discover what Amsterdam has to offer in the field of contemporary art. For four days contemporary art can be viewed and experienced in all its forms at the over 50 participating galleries, project spaces, museums and institutes. The different locations stage a varied program of exhibitions, performances, screenings, and conversations that show the newest developments in art. At the heart of the program lies the discovery of young talent. Yearly at the end of November, the event turns the capital into an international meeting place for promising and renowned artists, art enthusiasts, collectors, and professionals. The more than 100 specially tailored programs allow them to explore the city according to their particular interests within contemporary art. In case you have any further questions, we are happy to help! Last Friday, Capital C and Sijthoff Media hosted the Highest Herring Party on the roof of Capital C, with its beautiful glass dome and 360 - degree view of Amsterdam. Over 500 guests enjoyed fresh herring, live music, and an enthusiastic auction for an exclusive artwork. As proud members of the Capital C community we are happy to announce that the amount raised by the auction is donated to the Amsterdam Art Foundation. Willem Sijthoff, founder of Capital C, founder and CEO of Sijthoff Media and also co-founder and former member of the advisory board of Amsterdam Art decided to organise this event annually after a very successful edition last year. This year's auction featured a unique herring barrel designed by renowned artist Arno Coenen known for the iconic mural in Rotterdam's Market Hall and inspired by Keith Haring. Amsterdam Art Director Martina Halsema stated, "Art has the power to bring people together, and together we achieve so much more than alone. Collaboration and community is key and just like Capital C, Amsterdam Art is committed to connecting communities with each other (and with contemporary art) and making them accessible. We are all ambassadors of the creativity that makes Amsterdam so special. That's why we keep looking for new friendships and ways to join hands and harness our collective strength." Thank you to Capital C Amsterdam, Willem Sijthoff and Sijthoff Media for our longstanding friendship and collaboration, the artist Arno Coenen and the highest bidder for supporting our mission and vision.

Our Director, Martina Halsema, shares her thoughts and impressions of the mini-symposium held during Amsterdam Art Week 2024. This event was one of the major milestones, providing a platform for discussing crucial topics and current issues in the art and culture sector. Together with panelists and participants we engaged in an open discussion on the resilience and adaptability of the arts and cultural sectors in the face of rapidly evolving political and social environments. Big thanks to our panel speakers Emily Pethick, Josien Pieterse, and Tessa Giller; our keynote speakers Rubiah Balsem and Reza Afisina; and our moderator, Kirsten van den Hul; and to all our guests and international visitors, who actively participated in the discussions and shared their experiences. We extend our gratitude to our partners DutchCulture, Prince Claus Fund, Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Stichting de Appel, and Framer Framed for making this symposium possible, and to Capital C Amsterdam | Events | Meetings | Art | Offices for hosting this event. #AmsterdamArtWeek2024 #arttalks #symposium #event #paneltalk #culture #art #resilience #development #socialchanges #climate #artists #adaptability #Amsterdam #Netherlands #AmsterdamArt
Last Friday, during Amsterdam Art Week, we started the day with a mini symposium about Cultural Ecosystems & Changing Landscapes. We are happy to have had many visitors with different visions to join the conversation. We talked about the resilience and adaptability of arts and cultural sectors in the face of rapidly evolving political, international environments. We talked about how cultural organisations and individual artists sustain their economic and artistic viability when confronted with shifting political priorities and funding cuts, but also geopolitical developments. Big thanks to our partners DutchCulture, Prince Claus Fund, Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Stichting de Appel and Framer Framed for making this symposium possible, our panelists Emily Pethick, Josien Pieterse & Tessa Giller, the keynote speakers Rubiah Balsem & Reza Afisina and Kirsten van den Hul for moderating the conversation. Also thanks to Capital C Amsterdam | Events | Meetings | Art | Offices for hosting us. Amsterdam Art 📸 Almicheal Fraay

During Amsterdam Art Week 2024, our dear ambassadors- Milou Deelen and Emin Batman, took on the role of reporters to discover which artworks captivated our visitors the most and found out the stories behind the most creative outfits.
