Before we can manage, we must measure! Although the transition to a circular economy can happen without a baseline and accompanying target, a city, country or region has no other way to monitor whether progress is being made in the right direction, and to what extent. Gathering evidence on the impact of circular economy initiatives—through suitable indicators—can also help us ensure that these initiatives are serving the right end; that is, reducing environmental impacts in a way that also mitigates potential rebound effects. The process of establishing a baseline and target itself also brings people together. For example, our Circularity Gap Reports connect experts from a variety of industries to inspire action and illustrate what's possible. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is critical to the circular transition. However, many countries have yet to integrate green skills into their TVET curricula, especially in the Global South where resources and funding may be scarce. Closing these gaps is essential for these countries to reap the benefits of the circular economy. This is why we are pleased to announce the launch of our latest research paper with UNESCO-UNEVOC, outlining the capacity gaps in vocational institutions. It is based on analysis across three countries in Sub-Saharan Africa: Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. The study reveals four key factors that could foster circular economy skills and competencies in TVET: 🏛 Policy and regulatory frameworks,  🏭 Industry engagement and partnerships, 📚Curriculum development and updates, 💸 Investment. Today, we honour Emeritus Professor Louise E.M. Vet as she steps down from our Supervisory Board after an invaluable tenure of 13 years. Her guidance and wisdom have been pivotal in advancing our mission to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Her legacy will continue to inspire us as we work to accelerate the circular economy. 'I would like to thank Louise Vet, from the bottom of my heart, for her invaluable support in helping build the Circle Economy organisation from its very beginning. For the past 14 years, Louise has been a pillar of support, a friend, a sparing partner and above all, an inspiring and knowledgeable member of our Supervisory board. She represented the scientific and academic world and had strong ties to politics and civil society. Louise was able to really help establish the ideas of a Circular Economy and now more “regenerative economy”, offering concrete alternatives to the dying “linear economy” (take, make, waste economy) and establishing ways of assisting and accelerating this highly necessary transformation,' says Robert-Jan van Ogtrop, Chairman & Founder of Circle Economy. Beyond her contributions to Circle Economy, Professor Vet has left an indelible mark on ecology. As the former director of the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) and a professor at Wageningen University, she has significantly advanced research on plant-insect interactions and sustainable agroecosystems. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by her receipt of the prestigious Golden Pyramid state prize. Professor Vet's leadership extends far beyond national borders, as she has played a pivotal role in various international boards, promoting the crucial intersection of ecology and economy on a global scale. 'As we bid farewell to Prof. Vet as Supervisory Board member, we carry forward her passion and dedication. Her influence will continue to shape our efforts towards a greener, more sustainable future. Thank you, dear Professor Vet, for your wisdom, kindness, and passion! You will be missed,' says Ivonne Bojoh, CEO of Circle Economy.

Start your week with positive news! 🌱 The EU Nature Restoration Law has officially entered into force on Sunday, 18 August. 👏 ✅ What are the key provisions?  By 2030, EU Member States will be required to implement restoration measures in at least 20% of the EU's land and sea areas. By 2050, these measures should be in place for all ecosystems needing restoration. The law’s key objective is to restore key habitats, halt biodiversity loss and contribute to Europe’s climate neutrality. It also requires maintaining urban green space and expanding it after 2030. ⏩️What’s next?
