Sometimes, the benefits of expert advice take time to show. PUM’s collaboration with the Society Empowerment Project (SEP) in Kenya is a prime example. After remote support in 2021 and an on-site project in 2022, SEP has successfully launched innovative training on reusable sanitary pads. With new funding from USAID, they’re now expanding their efforts, enhancing production, and preparing for future growth. The National Employers Association of South Africa (NEASA) is working to enhance the business environment in South Africa. Through their collaboration with PUM they aim to improve labour relations, increase efficiency, and promote business development and incubator support. PUM Sector Coordinator Employers and Business Support Organisations Ton Voortman and Jos van Erp, responsible for social dialogue development at PUM, introduced social dialogue as an instrument to strengthen traditional relationships between employers, employees, the government and other partners. Today, we are launching our first media campaign across radio, highway billboards, and social media! Established in 1975, the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) serves as the umbrella organisation and a leading voice of the Philippine business community on important issues related to employment, industrial relations, labour, and social policies, all in pursuit of national development. Last year, ECOP began its collaboration with PUM to further enhance its programmes in social dialogue and skills development. With the technical assistance of PUM expert Cees Schoenmakers, ECOP aims to establish a Bipartite Cooperation Network to broaden its social dialogue platforms, engage more social partners, address industrial relations issues at both macro and micro levels, and strengthen membership engagement. Tanzania's hospitality sector has experienced significant growth over the past decade, driven by increased tourism, government support, and private sector investment. The country's diverse attractions, including the Serengeti National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar's beaches, have drawn millions of international visitors, fueling demand for hospitality services. the kilimanjaro institute of technology management (KITM) in Tanzania is expanding its hospitality education program to support Tanzania’s tourism sector. KITM approached PUM to assist the faculty in effectively implementing the new curriculum. Expert Bram de Muijnck, expert Hospitality Education is currently in Tanzania and will focus on translating the curriculum into practical lessons and real-world applications through hands-on training modules. Bram will also evaluate existing internship sites in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar to ensure they provide valuable practical training for students. Through these efforts, KITM aims to build a skilled workforce and strengthen Tanzania’s tourism and hospitality sector, contributing to the country’s economic growth.
