The summer break has ended, and we are excited to welcome a group of enthusiastic students to our vocational training program! This program allows students to work 4 days a week and attend school one day a week. 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦: 📍 The official opening of the ‘Philips Bedrijfsschool’ in Eindhoven took place on 28 November 1929, back when VDL ETG Eindhoven was still known as Philips Machinefabriek. 📍 This spring, Erik Wessels was honoured as the practice trainer of the year for the engineering and built environment sector. Erik has been with VDL Enabling Technologies Group (ETG) Almelo for over 29 years, with 5 of those years as a practical trainer. 📍 At VDL ETG Almelo alone, we currently have 50 vocational students. After the summer break, 20 new students started at our various VDL ETG companies. 📍 VDL ETG Suzhou has its own welding training centre to train students. 📍 We offer pathways in mechatronics, structural sheet metal, CNC machining and logistics. 📍 Besides working and learning, these students can also sign up for Triple T in Eindhoven and Almelo where they work on their physical and mental health.  Young technical talent is essential to the future of technology. 🌟 Dive into the world of microscopy! 🌟 The first TechFunDay of the year at SintLucas in Eindhoven was a fantastic kickoff to our technology promotion series! 🙏 During the NanoBattle, students conducted their own investigations using microscopes. We also hosted the exciting quiz: ‘’Guess the Microscope Picture’’, featuring 15 images magnified 40x 🔬 We’ll be at SintLucas again during the STO Weekend of Science on October 5. Additionally, we’ll be heading to Novalis, Vakcollege in cooperation with Aloysius, and Yuverta. 🎓 Around 40 master’s students from Technische Universiteit Eindhoven kicked off their introduction week with a visit to VDL GL Precision B.V.. The Mechanical Engineering and Operations & Logistics students began the afternoon with a tour through the VDL Groep experience centre, after which Managing Director Jadranko Dovic welcomed them at VDL GL Precision. After a presentation on the various aspects of (working in) ultra-precision engineering, the students got the chance to take a look behind the scenes. During the factory tour, they were introduced to the advanced production of precision parts on the edge of manufacturability and its cleanliness assemblies. Industrial Engineer Randy Timmermans, has the ambition to grow into an expert in the field of production methods and process optimisation, and eventually to lead a continuous improvement team. ''I find myself exactly at the cross-section between engineering and (business) processes. This ensures that I am concerned with understanding both product design, assembly, qualification, and the logistics. Based on these elements, I design and optimise the factory layout to produce as efficiently and effectively as possible. Here, it is important to have both tactical and human insight to initiate change step-by-step. When we are going to improve something, it often means changing things. By ensuring I both know the theory and practice, I make sure the change is supported by all layers of the organisation to minimise the challenge of the change itself. Randy’s background in Industrial Engineering & Management comes in handy when translating products from Design, through protobuilds to Volume-production. ‘’In my current role as an Industrial Engineer, I am involved in this full-time, working on several product groups. The Semicon market is special due to the relatively low production volumes, but high mix and complexity of products. This requires a good understanding of the assembly of the products, and the process design for the production. From high-speed milling machines and ultra-precision lathes to advanced welding equipment and 3D metal printing – our state-of-the-art facilities can bring almost any idea to life! Our expertise ranges from small products on the mirror milling machine to large frames on the Waldrich + Coburg, and everything in between. Did you know about the Waldrich + Coburg: 🔸 It can mill large products up to 9 by 4 meters with a precision of 1.5 hundredths across the entire surface. 🔸 With 5 axes, it reaches multiple sides of a product with just one clamping. 🔸 The moulds are clamped onto the bed using a hydraulic clamping system. This way we spend minimal time on clamping and production runs efficiently. 🔸 The concrete foundation took about three months to harden. Its piles extend 10 meters into the ground, preventing vibrations from affecting other machines in the production hall and vice versa. 🔸 While the Waldrich provides 300 different tools, the Burkhardt+Weber surpasses it with 500 tools.
