The crazed nanny who allegedly stabbed three infants at a “birth tourism” day care center in Queens said she saw and was trying to kill “wolves” during the bloody rampage.
Yu Fen Wang, 52, using a meat cleaver and a butcher knife allegedly slashed two adults and three babies, including a 13-day-old little girl, at Mei Xin Care Center in Flushing on Sept. 21.
Later that day at New York Presbyterian Wang told a doctor and a detective, “I thought I saw wolves and I tried to kill, kill, kill,” prosecutor Matthew Sweet said during her Queens Supreme Court arraignment on Friday.
Wang appeared disoriented and scared as she slowly shuffled into the courtroom with disheveled hair wearing a khaki jail uniform and handcuffs — all while her family looked on.
Wang pleaded not guilty to a 10-count indictment charging her with second-degree attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Her defense attorney Jean Wang argued that she be released on $10,000 bail so that she can receive mental health treatment at an outpatient facility, “in order for her to not die in jail and worsen in her mental disability.”
Wang has two sons and three grandchildren. Her family agreed to monitor her and ensure she receives treatment if released, her attorney said.
Wang’s lawyer said the alleged assailant has made multiple suicide attempts while in jail at Rikers where “she is not receiving adequate mental health treatment.”
“Every time I see her there is another injury,” her lawyer said, noting on different occasions Wang had slits on her wrists, bruises on her forehead and cuts on her tongue that were all “self-inflicted.”
But Judge Richard Buchter continued Wang’s remand saying, “It’s inappropriate for me to release her to a facility that is not secure.”
At a prior court date, Wang’s defense attorney said she plans to mount an insanity defense.
Officials previously told The Post that the care center was used for “birth tourism” where Chinese expectant moms could come to deliver their children so they are born with American citizenship.
Wang faces 25 years in prison if convicted. She is due back in court on Jan. 30.
