Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand (Fairtrade ANZ) is an independent certification body which licenses the use of the FAIRTRADE Mark on products which meet international Fairtrade standards. This independent consumer label is now recognised by 50% of Australian consumers and 76% of New Zealand consumers. Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices, Fairtrade aims to address the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives. Today, more than six million farmers, producers, workers and their families across 73 developing countries benefit from the international Fairtrade system. Worldwide, shoppers spent €7.88 billion on Fairtrade products in 2016, and an estimated €150 million was paid in Fairtrade Premium to producers in the Fairtrade system. In Australia and New Zealand, retail sales of Fairtrade Certified Products in 2016 were AU$377 million. Pacific farmers alone, earned over AU$820 thousand in Fairtrade Premium, which will be used for community and infrastructure building projects. Fairtrade ANZ was founded by international development NGOs in 2005 to support farmers and workers in developing countries to improve their lives and communities through better longer-term trading relationships. We are the AU/NZ member of Fairtrade International. www.fairtrade.com.au | www.fairtrade.org.nz

⭐ We have a winner! ⭐ Congratulations Sarah C. for winning the Fairtrade goodie bag competition at AGL. So excited to see the line up of Fairtrade treats in good hands and to have AGL as part of our Fairtrade Supporting Workplaces. Thanks to Jasper Coffee, Tony's Chocolonely, Karma Drinks and Macpac Ltd. for their support.
I’m incredibly proud to work for AGL, which has been recognised as a Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand as a Fairtrade Supporting Workplace —one of the first in Australia! This recognition highlights our commitment to ethical business practices, ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable farming methods. It’s amazing to see how our efforts contribute to positive global change, and this recognition is a testament to our values in action. I'm also thrilled to share that I was the lucky winner of our recent Fairtrade competition! 🎉 A special shoutout to Tony's Chocolonely and their incredible mission to end exploitation in the chocolate industry. Their work aligns with AGL’s own commitment to addressing modern slavery risks in our operations and supply chains. Like Tony’s and Fairtrade, AGL is dedicated to making a difference, and I’m excited to see how we can continue to support these important initiatives. This means that AGL have committed to regularly sourcing Fairtrade brands including Jasper's Coffee and SereniTEA for their workplaces across Australia. ☕🎉💚 To celebrate this commitment AGL hosted an educational morning where staff across their Melbourne HQ were gifted Fairtrade Tony's Chocolonely chocolate. Not a bad way to start your Wednesday! Thanks so much AGL for hosting such a fun and informative morning, we loved being apart of it. We’re proud to be one of the first Australian workplaces to be recognised by Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand as a Fairtrade Supporting Workplace. Fairtrade is a global system that connects farmers and workers, businesses, and consumers to ensure fair terms of trade with the aim of tackling poverty, and issues like modern slavery, to deliver positive outcomes for all. Through the purchase of Fairtrade products for our offices, such as SereniTEA and Jasper Coffee, we’re demonstrating our commitment to ethical business practices. Last week, we celebrated our Fairtrade Supporting Workplace status with a Fairtrade x Tony's Chocolonely pop up in our Melbourne office where delicious chocolate was enjoyed by our employees. As outlined in our Modern Slavery Statement, we remain committed to addressing the potential risks in our operations and supply chain → https://lnkd.in/gncd5W2Y #Fairtrade #Governance #ModernSlavery

Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand reposted this
Let me ask you a simple question: How many think one human can own another? Many in civilised societies would say this is an absurd question and respond with a no. Yet 50 million people worldwide are under Modern Slavery, about ten times the population of New Zealand. In my column in today's edition of The Post newspaper, I argue why governments should catch up on Modern Slavery laws. I take the case of the recent New Zealand government's regressive step of dissolving a group tasked with helping to shape a modern slavery law. https://lnkd.in/g38eNtMw
