“I thought this would work!” 😩 You’ve thought out a different way of operating. The new process is mapped out. Now it’s time the rubber hits the road and… it’s hard. You miss the old way, you knew it so well. But you thought this would work! You’re not alone. Elizabeth Kübler-Ross pioneered our understanding of this phenomenon by articulating the “stages of grief.” It’s important when you face these challenges to change to recognise the internal emotions which occur. These are different to the type of frustration felt when attempting an ill-suited process change. Those feelings are objective and visible from the process. The stages of grief feelings are more subjective and can be a frustration right through to a depressive state that is more to do with missing the old way than it is about the new way.
