Creating a new energy future

About us

We are New Zealand's largest distributor of electricity and gas, owning and operating networks which span the Auckland region. But we don’t stop here - our reach extends to Australia and the Pacific Islands, shaping a new energy future for our customers, through innovative digital and engineering solutions, metering services, solar energy solutions, electric vehicle (EV) networks, high speed internet fibre, air and water purification to name a few. We haven’t been afraid to challenge the status quo. As leaders of the transformation of the energy sector, we know the ‘same old’ just won’t cut it. We have the confidence to forge new solutions and for our people to work differently, to think differently. We have collaborated with global technology companies and thought leaders who share our view that innovation and digitalisation are key to meeting the future needs of energy systems and fast-evolving customer demands. As governments, businesses and consumers urgently take action to decarbonise, at Vector we are clear on our vision – creating a new energy future. Because we live in a world that is changing fast, we must continue to identify and develop better options that will provide value, choice and service for our customers throughout New Zealand and beyond, so the environment and communities we love continue to thrive. To do this, Vector has a vision of creating a new energy future, which will help to deliver clean, reliable and affordable energy solutions for customers.

💧 Vector Lights is going blue for World Drowning Prevention Day, the World Health Organisation’s initiative to unite us all as we strive to make a difference to prevent drowning. In 2023, we lost 90 lives in the waters of Aotearoa New Zealand – the highest in a decade. Drowning Prevention Auckland’s mission is to reduce the number of drowning fatalities to zero across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland through education, research, and advocacy. #GoingBlueNZ #DPAgoingblue ✨ #vectorlights with Auckland Council and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | Drowning Prevention Auckland

🏊 Did you know Vector sponsors Vector Wero Whitewater Park, which offers a school water safety programme to teach Kiwi kids how to stay safe in the water? More than 17,000 have taken part so far! The goal is that every student of South Auckland experiences this community programme during their school years. Super excited to see how the team at Vector Technology Solutions Ltd grow the capabilities of the Diverge energy data platform.

VTS has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build Diverge, a next-generation energy data platform that transforms data into actionable insights.   Diverge was designed to meet the challenges of the energy transition and helps utilities like Vector Limited to operationalise energy data innovation. It also helps Vector to support organisations like Auckland Transport to achieve their decarbonisation goals.   #WATCH this video to see how Diverge enabled the New Lynn electric bus depot, using existing assets and ‘dynamic operating envelopes’ that vary load limits in response to changing network conditions. It does so without adversely impacting others on the network and avoids or delays the need for costly network upgrades.

🧠 😊 Mental health is crucial to all our employees’ wellbeing, but it can be a challenging topic to raise and a tricky one to navigate. Enter 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝, with courses from their team of psychologists, counsellors and mindfulness trainers.  As part of our wellbeing programme at Vector, we recently put our first cohort through a six-week mindfulness course which covers everything from understanding the brain, effectively processing emotions, and changing negative thought patterns to stress management strategies and building emotional intelligence.   It’s based on research-based cognitive behavioural therapy and science-backed mindfulness techniques – and it made a clear impact on our team. Here is just some of their feedback:  • "The best workshop I’ve been part of – it was beneficial for work but also for personal life. I wish I had done this 20 years ago!"  • “A good overview of what brain states are and how they affect perception, behaviour, interactions and relationships with others.”   • “The perfect tool set for personal and professional growth and development.” ❓ What does your company do to optimise wellbeing at work? We’d love to hear about it in the comments.  #wellbeing #workplacewellbeing #mentalhealth #mindfulness

✨ This year, as part of our Matariki celebrations, we were lucky enough to welcome some very special guests to our offices in Auckland. The kapa haka group from Sancta Maria College came and shared a number of powerful performances alongside stories about the Matariki star cluster. Yesterday’s event gave us an opportunity to come together to reflect on the past year, celebrate the present and take time to think about the year ahead. The celebration was complete with a delicious feast of hangi, fried bread and rēwena bread. Food is central to the celebration of Matariki, with Māori believing that the appearance of Matariki in the morning sky in winter would determine the success or failure of kai harvesting. The theme for this year is ‘Matariki heri kai’ and comes from the Māori proverb ‘Matariki whetū heri kai’ meaning ‘Matariki, the bringer of food’. 🙌 Big thanks to all the organisers, especially Kerri Perham for bringing this special event to life and to your whānau for helping with the wonderful kai. What a gathering it was. The room was full, as were our bellies. Thank you. Ngā mihi o Matariki, te tau hou Māori. Helena Chan | Hayden Poole | Teina Teariki Mana | Jenny Wood

Did you know that only around 14% of engineers here in New Zealand are women? Sunday was International Women in Engineering Day – a day that marks the importance of continuing to raise the profile of women within the field of engineering and also awareness of engineering as a career. It was a timely opportunity for us to catch up with Diviya Chhagan, a current graduate engineer here at Vector, and hear about her experiences so far of studying, and now working, with us over the last 18 months.  #INWED24 #WomeninEngineering #STEM

💡 Last Thursday we had the pleasure of hosting entrepreneur Kendra Ross, a leading figure in the cybersecurity industry . She kindly joined us as a guest speaker to talk about the world of cybersecurity, some of her experiences to date and cyber’s critical role across all business sectors.   In a discussion led by our chief operations officer Peter Ryan we talked about how cybersecurity is no longer just the domain of IT and technology departments, but something that is hugely important for everyone to be aware of. It was interesting to reflect back on and learn how cybersecurity has evolved over time with the increased sophistication of threats and the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI).   🔗We also learned about Kendra’s fascinating career and how she got into cybersecurity, her experience building businesses, her time as a board member on CERT NZ as well as many other amazing achievements.    We were certainly left with lots to think about. 🙌 Thank you so much Kendra!   #cybersecurity #risk #AI
