Our recent summer party held at the Elos Medtech site in Pforzheim was a testament to this core value. On 22 June, over 400 guests, including employees, their partners, and families, came together for a day filled with games, fun, and delicious food. Our social team did an outstanding job organizing a diverse entertainment program that catered to everyone. From bouncy castles and bungee trampolines for the kids to thrilling challenges like laser tag and a space trainer, there was something for every age group to enjoy. Notably, our social team even took on our management in laser tag and emerged victorious—a true reflection of our team's competitive spirit and camaraderie. During tours led by Patrick Gauss, there was enthusiastic feedback about our products and their applications, highlighting the dedication and expertise of our team. The extensive grounds provided ample space for relaxation, with covered seating areas ensuring comfort for all our guests. The culinary delights were a highlight of the day, with a wide array of barbecue specialties, freshly prepared pizzas, and Italian ice cream that satisfied every palate. The lively beats spun by "DJ Defence" kept the energy high well into the night, ensuring everyone danced and celebrated together. Despite initial weather challenges, the day turned out to be perfect, reflecting the resilience and positivity of our team. Rethinking Cobalt - Challenges and Insights that will effect all orthopedic companies. A Joint Research Centre (JRC) report, "Cobalt: demand-supply balances in the transition to electric mobility," examines cobalt's supply and demand in the automotive industry. However also provides valuable insights for the medical device sector, especially regarding CoCr alloys in orthopedic implants. Although the report centers on cobalt's role in EV batteries, the challenges and risks are highly relevant to our industry. Here are some key points from the report: Supply Chain Vulnerabilities: Cobalt production is heavily concentrated in politically unstable countries, posing big risks of supply disruption. Price Volatility: Fluctuating cobalt prices, driven by high demand and supply constraints, can increase costs for CoCr implants, affecting affordability and accessibility. Environmental and Ethical Concerns: Cobalt mining in the DRC causes habitat destruction and pollution, with additional ethical issues like child labour. Need for Alternatives: Substitution and recycling can mitigate cobalt demand. The medical field should explore alternative materials for implants and enhance recycling efforts for existing CoCr devices. We understand these challenges from work with our partners and are working to develop solutions. We are putting our expertise to pioneering solutions to tackles these issues with more sustainable materials for orthopedic solutions. The installation was finished in July and gives a yearly capacity of 300,000 kw/h! Cobots in Action: Elevating Efficiency and Enabling Innovation Since 2019, some of our orthopedic facilities have been operating with the integration of collaborative robots (cobots), transforming our daily operations. With the Cobots we are able to reduce repetitive tasks allowing our production personnel to focus more on the quality of the products they are producing. This creates a number of benefits: Increased Efficiency: Cobots streamline repetitive tasks, significantly speeding up our production processes and maximizing our labor hours. Enhanced Precision: With Cobots, we achieve higher accuracy and consistency in our manufacturing, ensuring top-notch quality for our products. Boosted Creativity: Cobots are able to perform fairly complex tasks, more than just picking and placing parts, giving our engineers opportunities to use them in quite creative ways. Injury Reduction: Cobots are able to handle tasks that many times lead to repetitive work injuries. With the use of these robots we are able to reduce the risk of these types of injuries to our employees. Improved Motivation: Our team can focus on complex, more rewarding tasks, leading to a more engaging and fulfilling work environment.
