We are excited to announce that UVAXX, together with A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs - ID Labs, has successfully developed a novel epitope-based vaccine that can defend against the Scale Drop Disease Virus (SDDV) infection in Asian sea bass, Barramundi. Through our 12 years of experience working with farmers to provide veterinary services and fish health solutions, we have witnessed the severity and devastation caused by SDDV. Until today, there are no commercially available solutions. We are proud to be on track to be the first to bring the solution to market. This could not have been possible without the visionary leadership of Professor Laurent Renia, A*STAR Senior Fellow (ID Labs), and support from the Singapore Food Agency, National Research Foundation Singapore, and Dr Ken Loh Zhixuan, Senior Scientist (ID Labs). Efficacious vaccines remain the most critical tool for enabling a paradigm shift in aquaculture disease management from a reactive to a preventative approach and transforming farm production unit economics. Cultivating Lates calcarifer in aquaculture poses challenges, as the dense populations that make such aquaculture commercially viable facilitate the rapid spread of infectious diseases, which in turn significantly impact yield.  Hence, the immunization of juveniles is necessary. However, ever changing strains make it difficult to have a potential long term vaccine against certain bacterial pathogens. Here is our study on genome characterisation of various strains of S. iniae, a bacterial pathogen that is highly lethal to Asian seabass. Our preliminary data indicates cross-protection against various strains of S. iniae is possible. Thank you Roland G.
