Dr. Ajay Chawla, Health Commissioner/Medical Director
Dr. Chawla has served as the Health Commissioner and Medical Director since March 2009. In addition to his role with Shelby City Health Department, he maintains a private medical practice in Shelby and serves as medical director for Hospice of North Central Ohio and Crestwood Care Center. He is board certified in internal medicine as well as hospice and palliative care and has hospital privileges at Ohio Health Mansfield and Shelby hospitals. Dr. Chawla attended medical school at University College of Medical Sciences in Delhi, India. He completed the residency program at Good Samaritan – Johns Hopkins Health System in Baltimore, Maryland and a geriatric fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical System and VA Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Gillian Olsen, REHS/RS – Director of Environmental Health
Gillian has served as the Director since June 2024. She is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist with over 16 years of experience in the field.

Sue has served as Administrative Professional/Support Staff since late October of 2023. She has worked as an Administrative Specialist/Public Health Sanitarian Aide, for a total of 28 years in Public Service.
