Bill Mehojah

Bill Mehojah currently works with schools in the Gila River Indian Community and is the Native Youth Community Program (NYCP) Grant Coordinator for Blackwater Community School in Arizona. He previously held several positions, including Director of Indian Education, with the Office of Indian Education Programs, now the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). Originally an English teacher in a BIE boarding school, he was also an administrator of a technical assistance center serving BIE schools in Anchorage, Alaska. Mehojah is a member of the Kaw Nation of Oklahoma.

As part of the Office of Special Education Programs’ (OSEP’s) Global Accessibility Awareness Day celebration this month, OSEP staff interviewed leaders from the OSEP-funded Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP): Jason Stark (Chief Executive Officer and Director of the DCMP) and Kyle Sisk (Chief Technical Officer of the DCMP). The first blog in the three-blog series provides an overview of DCMP, its leadership and the types of accessible educational services DCMP brings to the worlds of digital media and learning for kids with disabilities.

This year is an exciting year for accessibility! In January, the department released the new National EdTech Plan, and OSEP and OET co-published Assistive Technology Devices and Services for Children With Disabilities Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
