Jim Jarmusch Directs Cat Power's New "A Pair Of Brown Eyes" Music Video

American filmmaker Jim Jarmusch has directed the new music video for Cat Power‘s version of The Pogues’ “A Pair of Brown Eyes” (see below) from her new album Covers, which is currently out on Domino Records.

A director widely considered one of the film industry’s most original and unique minds, Jarmusch’s filmography includes acknowledged classics such as “Down By Law,” “Stranger Than Paradise,” “Night On Earth,” and the Forest Whitaker action pic “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.” It’s also worth mentioning Jarmusch’s musical reach is similarly pathbreaking, having worked with luminaries Tom Waits, Neil Young, RZA, GZA, Joe Strummer, Iggy Pop, and more.

His most recent films have dipped into the horror realm including “The Dead Don’t Die” and “Only Lovers Left Alive.”

For his first collaboration with Chan Marshall (Cat Power is her stage name), Jarmusch shot in New York City at Blonde Studios, highlighting her in an airy ghostlike quality, alternating between misty angles of Marshall performing on the Mellotron.

“As someone who deeply loves Cat Power’s music, getting to collaborate with Chan on this video was like a dream come true,” says Jarmusch of working with Cat Power. “She’s so inspiring to me, of course as an artist, but she’s also just such an extraordinary person.”

The haunting song is placed against a simplistic white/grey background as Cat Power performs The Pogues cover. This summer, Marshall will hit the road in Europe, playing a sold-out show in Paris, and is supporting Pearl Jam at their Hyde Park London show on July 8. You can check out the Cat Power website for her full tour dates.
