    Hydrilla Alert

    July 12, 2024 - The lake is infested with hydrilla, an invasive plant that creates large mats of vegetation across the surface of the water. We are working on controlling and removing the hydrilla, but it can affect swimming, fishing and boating. Contact the park office with questions.

Brazos Bend State Park Needville, TX

    Flooded Areas

    May 2, 2024 - Parts of the North and South day-use areas, including the swim area and Shoreline ADA Trail, are flooded. The areas are not closed, but please use extreme caution. 

    Phone Issues

    Dec. 4, 2023 - We are experiencing intermittent phone outages. If you are unable to reach us and need immediate help, please call the Customer Service Center during regular business hours: (512) 389-8900. 

    Visiting the Park

    • We recommend reserving day passes for weekends and holidays. If your plans change, please modify or cancel your reservation so someone else can visit.
    • Trails close for wet weather and maintenance. Call the park or check our Facebook page for updates before visiting.
    • Argentine ants have been identified in some of our campsites. These invasive ants do not sting. Be prepared to treat around your vehicle and camping equipment. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is working to reduce the number of ants without harming the park's natural resources.

    May 10, 2024 - The floating dock in the Heron Harbor Day-use Area at the South Sulphur Unit is closed. The walkway to the dock has been removed due to damage. Fishing access from the wall is still open.

    Sidewalk Project

    June 17, 2024 - Part of the day-use area will be closed starting in mid-August for a sidewalk improvement project. The swim/beach area and the back deck of the pavilion will remain open.

Davis Mountains State Park Fort Davis, TX

    Jan. 27, 2023 - The Indian Lodge trailhead is closed due to renovations at Indian Lodge and can be accessed from the Montezuma Quail Trail only. The trail is 1.5 miles round trip from that intersection.

    Feb. 6, 2024 - Indian Lodge, including the Black Bear Restaurant, is closed for renovations. Reservations for 2024 will not be available until a reopening date has been set.

    Firewood Quarantine

    May 16, 2024 - This county is under a quarantine to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer to other areas of the state. This means movement of firewood is restricted.

    Please buy firewood where you burn it to prevent the spread of diseases and pests.

      Argentine Ants

      Argentine ants, an invasive species, have been identified in some campsites in the park. The ants do not sting.

      Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is working with experts to reduce the ants without harming natural resources. Before leaving, thoroughly inspect your vehicle, RV, camping gear and other equipment; if you see the ants, please notify park staff immediately and they can offer guidance for treating.       Sept. 12, 2024 - Beach access is limited and may require driving or walking through standing salt water due to high tides from Hurricane Francine. Beach camping, the parking lot and the beach access roads are closed due to flooding. Check back for updates.

      Beach Driving

      Only those with 4x4 vehicles should drive on the beach due to soft sand. Otherwise, you should park in the day-use parking lot to avoid getting stuck.

      Most of the park will be closed Jan. 26 to Feb. 28, 2025, for a construction project on Park Road 11. All areas on the south side of the San Marcos River will be closed including all water/electric campsites, the main trail system, showers, the Refectory building/parking and picnic area.       Summer Trail Safety

      • Temperatures in the canyon are often 5-10 degrees hotter than on the rim.  Outdoor activities during this time can be dangerous. Stay safe!
        • Avoid hiking during the heat of the day.
        • Stay on trails.
        • Drink 1 liter of water per person, per mile.
        • Hike with friends.
      • The following trails will close from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on days when the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory. Please observe these closures for your safety.

      Reservoir Levels Notice

      Sept. 4, 2024 - Due to recent rains, the lake's level has risen and it has reopened for boating. The lake is near 8 percent capacity and one boat ramp is open. Watch for debris that may have washed in during rain events. 

      Dump Station Closure

      Feb. 6, 2024 - The Bald Eagle Campground Dump Station is closed for maintenance. The dump station in the North Concho Equestrian Campground as well as one on the south side of the park in the Red Arroyo Campground are open.

      Sticker Bur Alert

      We have lots of sticker burs in and around our campsites right now. Wear good shoes and be cautious with pets and children.

      North Shore Gate Locked

      Check in at the South Shore entrance (362 S. FM 2288) to get the gate code for the North Shore.

      • Construction continues on a replacement of the low-water crossing at the park's entrance. Access to the river for tubing, paddling, fishing and swimming is available. Watch for signs or ask park headquarters about temporary river access points. River portage around construction is clearly marked.
      • Expect construction noise, construction traffic on the roadways, and possible road or lane closures at the park.
