Evangeline Lilly Is ‘Stepping Away’ From Acting: ‘For Now, This Is Where I Belong’
Lost star-turned-Marvel superhero Evangeline Lilly is calling it quits: The actress announced Monday that she is “stepping away” from acting… at least for now.
“I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision,” she captioned on Instagram alongside a video from 2006 where she’s seen sharing her dreams for the future. “Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings. Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment. I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong. A new season has arrived, and I AM READY…and I AM HAPPY.”
Lilly’s very first TV credit was Smallville, where she played different characters across four episodes. She got her big break a couple years later starring as Kate Austen in ABC’s island-hopping sci-fi mystery series Lost for 108 episodes.
She also found success on the big screen playing Tauriel in the sequels to The Hobbit, in addition to playing Hope van Dyne (aka Wasp) in Ant-Man, its sequels and Avengers: Endgame. While Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently her most recent credit, she’ll star in the upcoming film Happy Life alongside Ike Barinholtz and Alexandra Daddario some time in the future.

Well, good luck to her. That’s a brave choice.
Must not be getting those calls from Marvel to make another garbage Ant-Man and Wasp film and skipping her entirely in the next Avengers movie. But then again, I’d retire too if I was in “Quantumania”.
I suspect that she’d return to the MCU. But only them. Maybe a cameo in some Tolkien-verse project.

Fact is, after 2 Tolkien Movies, and 4 MCU films, and over 100 eps as the star of Lost, she’s got F-U money. She doesn’t have to work for the sake of work.

Taking 5+ million, at least, to be a bit player in a future MCU pic is a no brainer, and she could easily say that she “owes it to the fans/characters/costars” to go back to one of those universes. But she’s not doing anything else.

Further, no one, NO ONE, gets paid to star in movies. It is easy and fun. People get paid to PROMOTE movies. And that is where things get a little dicey for her. For either of the universes I mentioned, she wouldn’t have to do a TON of press/publicity/promotion for either of those film universes.
Good. I don’t think anyone’s going to miss her acting.
Love her in all her work. (Even when the scripts are not the best) I wish her the best. Secretly wishing she might return to acting once in a while…
Good for her, she’s got young kids and can enjoy life. Can always return to acting down the line, but you won’t ever get that time back.
Not the first actor who’s done this and certainly won’t be the last.
I’ve enjoyed her work for ages — but I’m happy for her looking for fulfillment in life, wherever it is. Would love to see her come back if a role is meaningful enough to her, but either way I just wish her the best.

I agree. But I also think sometimes good people go down rabbit holes. She might mean well, but has been convinced by the massive number of people weaponizing misinformation for their own gain.
She actually has said this before. If even follow her a bit on social media this is not the first time she has stepped away from acting.

She’s financially well off enough and fortunate enough to be able to step away.
