Tech luminaries Sergey Brin and Bill Gates have high hopes for the future of artificial intelligence, and both are featured backing the technology in the AI Weekly Digest. The Google co-founder said he is working at the search giant “pretty much every day” as he is energised by AI advances. Microsoft co-founder Gates' support for AI was more nuanced. He said he was broadly optimistic but warned that "misinformation is the one where I do think the younger generation is going to have to look at the trade-offs between free speech and misinforming people". The Digest also features OpenAI announcing it will launch new '01' models which it claims are capable of reasoning, enabling them to solve complex problems.

The UK, EU, US and Israel have signed the first international treaty on artificial intelligence - a key move designed to prevent misuse of the technology. In another busy week in the AI sector this story features prominently in our digest along with an eye-catching figure from OpenAI: ChatGPT weekly users have doubled in the past 10 months to top 200m. Meanwhile, media giants including the New York Times, Financial Times, The Atlantic, Vox Media and Condé Nast have excluded their data from Apple’s AI training, less than three months after the iPhone-maker introduced its opt-out tool.
