We partnered with Beavertown Brewery, one of London's staple brewers which operates as a part of Heineken, to turn their spent barley grain into card holders with their iconic branding. These card holders are showcasing at Beavertown's annual pop-up in London and show that brewers can create consumer goods from their own waste and co-products with Arda. There's still time for those in London to visit the pop-up, held at Truman Brewery in Shoreditch. Along with fashion, there are special beers on tap. – Wednesday, 28th August, 1pm - 8pm (ALCOHOL FREE DAY) – Thursday, 29th August, 1pm - 8pm – Friday, 30th August, 1pm - 6pm A big thank you to the Beavertown team for helping to make this happen. Hopefully we can go bigger and better together for next year's event! And thank you vegconomist - the vegan business magazine for featuring our exciting collaboration. https://lnkd.in/eQyaDBQX

The Arda team was incredibly privileged to host the BBC earlier this year to film a piece about Arda for BBC Click and BBC News; the clip is now available on YouTube for all to enjoy 🍻

Earlier this year we welcomed the BBC into the Arda lab to film a short documentary about our first innovation, New Grain — a leather alternative made from waste brewery grain protein. 🌾 🍻 🐄 I am happy to share that the clip is now publicly available on YouTube (including hilarious comments about my scarf 🙈) — hope you enjoy! A big thanks to Sammy Fry for making the introduction, Kernel Brewery for providing our grain, and Lara Lewington & Yasmin Morgan-Griffiths from the BBC for their work on filming and bringing it all together. https://lnkd.in/eHFx-s_e

Our co-founder Brett appeared on new podcast from Ryan Grant Little called "Another Climate Podcast." Highly recommend subscribing to Ryan on Spotify or Apple – he's had some incredible guests on from founders to non-profits and VCs.

I'm an avid podcast listener, though haven't sought to record many. 🎙 But when Ryan Grant Little invited me to be on his "Another Climate Podcast" and after listening to some of his previous guests (Speedinvest, The Good Food Institute, Nate Crosser, Nathan Paumier, Arkeon, Arman Anatürk, and many others) I knew it'd be a great chat! You can listen below on Spotify or Apple. Ryan and I discuss: 👜 Biomaterials innovation, and specifically in leather-like materials 🌾 Arda Biomaterials' first product, New Grain, and its new approach 🐄 How leather is a co-product and cows are poor "technology stacks" 🍺 "Crafting" local supply chains with breweries and whisky distilleries 🎡 And how the UK is a great place to build a science company Thank you Ryan for having me on, and a special cheers to our wonderful investors at Satgana for introducing us. Thank you for the shout Clean Growth Fund 🍻 We're lucky to work with you on bringing biomaterials to scale. Happy Earth Day!
Today is an important day in the #climatetech calendar, #EarthDay. EARTHDAY.ORG raises awareness and inspires change across the world to protect the earth for generations to come. This year's theme is #PlanetVsPlastic, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040. With this theme in mind, we're delighted to shine a light on Arda Biomaterials, a young innovative company who we invested in last year. Arda is on a mission to transform waste barley grain from the beer brewing industry into a leather alternative that is entirely #plastic and animal free.... suitable for applications in fashion, home goods, automotive, and various other industries. You’ll see the Arda team on the BBC sometime soon 🍻
Co-founder & CTO at Arda Biomaterials | Oxford PhD Chemistry (DPhil) | F30u30 | Biomaterials, Sustainability, Climate-tech
Yesterday, Brett Cotten, the Arda Biomaterials team, and I had the amazing privilege of hosting Lara Lewington & Yasmin Morgan-Griffiths from the BBC for the filming of Click — a programme that explores up-and-coming technologies. For the camera we show some brewery action, science at work, and the end result, our animal & plastic-free leather-like material, New Grain. A big thank you to Tech Nation, and in particular Sammy Fry for making the connection, and a big cheers to The Kernel Brewery 🍻 for allowing us to film some of your brewing magic and to collect your spent grain. We'll share the online version of the clip once it's out!

Our first big media piece (link below)! Fast Company published a story on Arda Biomaterials written by green journalist Maeve Campbell. 🌾 A big thank you to Maeve for coming to visit us on the Beer Mile in South London, snapping pictures, and for writing up this piece. 🍻 The whole team are really excited to see Arda's first big feature, and the work to transform brewery & whisky spent grain into next-gen materials (scalable + animal & plastic-free) continues. https://lnkd.in/eb_R-xJN
