During the pandemic, it took the start-up only two days to identify baricitinib, a drug originally prescribed to treat rheumatoid arthritis, as a potential treatment for Covid. It soon received emergency approval from regulators in the United States and elsewhere.   Like others in the drug discovery business, it has sought to demystify the black box that often characterises artificial intelligence. “Our focus is on what we are calling explainable AI,” Moeller said. “We want to use it in a very transparent fashion, where we have a track record of what we are doing in terms of the algorithm so that you’re always able to go back and trace back.”’

We were pleased to join Matt Clifford at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to share insights for the AI Opportunities Action Plan. It’s vital the UK maximises its AI-driven productivity and investment, builds long-term infrastructure, and leverages its top-tier talent.

The big promise of AI is to foundationally change that.”
