On Monday, a reception at Chaophraya marked the successful conclusion of the city’s 100 Days of Creativity campaign, a vibrant celebration of art and culture that ran from May 19 to August 26 🎉 Kicking off with the Flatpack Film Festival and wrapping up with Birmingham Weekender, the summer-long celebration highlighted the incredible diversity of creative expression and events across the city. Selected by the City Curator Alex Nicholson-Evans, the campaign was hosted on visitbirmingham.com, where the combination of our regional listing platform, Culture & Tourism Connected, and the recent updates to the websites functionality and design, made it the ideal platform for over 60 creative organisations to submit and showcase their events to a wider audience. The campaign’s success not only boosted traffic to our leisure tourism website but also highlighted our free event upload feature, making it easier for local creatives to connect with the community. Looking ahead, we’re excited to host more partner campaigns, including the upcoming 'Creativity Week' in October, a week-long celebration brought to you by the West Midlands Combined Authority. ISG awarded the first phase of construction works for the restoration and redevelopment of Moseley Road Baths and Balsall Heath Library Moseley Road Baths is one of the oldest of six Grade II* Listed swimming baths in the UK. This first phase of the project will be in four stages, beginning with crucial roof and façade works, which will see scaffolding erected during September. This phase will also see: - Introduction of a café into the Second-Class Slipper Baths - Reconfiguration of the visitor spaces, especially in the reception areas - Reinforcement works to the basement and foundations - Installation of renewable energy including air source heat pumps - Access improvements, including creating permanent level access on entry and installation of the first of three new lifts to the buildings Phase 1 works have been funded by UK Government, Birmingham City Council and The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project is a partnership between Birmingham City Council and Moseley Road Baths Charitable Incorporated Organisation who took over the operation of the Baths in 2017. This first phase is a major milestone in the campaign to save the Baths which is supported by a wider coalition of organisations: Historic England, World Monuments Fund, National Trust, and the Friends of Moseley Road Baths. Luke Arnold, Regional Director at ISG said “We are delighted to undertake phase 1 major construction work at Moseley Road Baths, an iconic landmark in South Birmingham, supporting the local and city wide community to realise the full benefits and legacy of this exciting project for current and future generations.” Phase 1 is the beginning of realising the masterplan vision for the Baths. Meet the class of 2024! 👨🎓 Our summer bootcamp in Birmingham wrapped up this week, and what a summer it’s been. ☀ Partnering with Millennium Point Birmingham and Digital Innovators, over four weeks we had innovation, creativity and confidence on the syllabus. Groups of children met for the first time to come up with solutions to challenges and creations like the ‘Flood buster’ were born – one of many fantastic ideas from the young Brummie innovators. 💡 Joining us on our final day, was Councillor Sharon Thompson, JP, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council & Cabinet Member for Economy & Skills and Deputy Mayor of West Midlands Combined Authority – who presented the children with awards and spoke to the room about the importance of providing opportunities and tips to be your best self. The camp was designed to boost confidence, build resilience, and spark creativity with the goal to help young people positively build skills and confidence to support them with continuing with education and finding employment in the future. Jacob 12, said: “This has brought out the creative side in me, I never thought I could create the things that I have.” Maryam 13, added: “It’s been fun meeting new people and building my confidence.” Big thanks to everyone involved, especially all the wonderful children - our future generation - who made this a huge success!
