I would like to pay tribute to Alain Delon not only as an iconic actor but also as a passionate, eclectic, and sophisticated art collector. He began collecting art in the 1960s, saying, "Since I was working a lot, all my money went into old drawings." Over the years, he expanded his collection to include paintings and sculptures that, in his words, “moved me, spoke to me, and even sometimes consoled me." Delon focused on 19th-century paintings (Géricault, Delacroix, Millet, Corot), the Fauves, and 1950s abstraction, featuring artists like Riopelle, Estève, Nicolas de Staël and Manessier. In 2016, the sale of his collection of sculptures by Rembrandt Bugatti at Christie's in Paris was a great success. On a more personal note, among many memorable movies, his performances in ‘Le Cercle Rouge’ and ‘Le Samouraï’ by Jean-Pierre Melville or in ‘Monsieur Klein’ by Joseph Losey, deeply impressed me and contributed to making me a passionate cinephile.

I am pleased to announce Christie's auction sales results for the first half of the year. Despite a decline in total sales compared to last year, reflecting a challenging macro environment, all other key performance metrics were either maintained or improved, reaffirming our resilience and status as a leader in the #artmarket. Looking ahead, we have already announced a new series of sales from the estate of the late Paul G. Allen in New York this September. We also have a promising schedule of sales in Hong Kong, London and New York this autumn. Stay tuned for further updates.
