Over the past week we've seen how much power lies in the coming together of communities in response to riots. Published today our letter in the The Guardian, signed by Polly Curtis, Halima Begum, Su Moore and others, presents this surge in community spirit as the beginning of a shared endeavour of national renewal and an opportunity not to be missed. 🚨 NEW RESEARCH 🚨 In partnership with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), we've harnessed innovative social media listening techniques to shed light on the experiences of people living in financial hardship. Today we launch Wave Two of the year long programme of work. 🔎 In this wave, we focused on gathering insights on the intersection of #disability and #poverty. 1️⃣ Key findings ranged from the vital role of mutual aid via online forums, difficulties navigating government support services and political engagement in an election year. 2️⃣ We found distressing examples of individuals experiencing extreme hardship, with many resorting to online support from the community. 3️⃣ Despite the challenges, we saw an overwhelming determination from citizens to ‘fight like hell’, for their rights *and* the rights of others. 📕 Read the full report out today. ⬇ https://lnkd.in/enHzbgwM

How can Labour make mission-driven government a reality? In our new paper, supported by Headland, we highlight the transformational economic impact of partnering with businesses, and lay the roadmap to unlocking true partnership in practice. Paper author, Andrew O'Brien, shows that this will require a shift on both sides. Businesses need to become more collaborative and think about the wider interests of society. Government will need to develop more deliberative policy and commit to longer term plans.
