    Outbound tourism from China has been growing in 2024! According to an article by Jing Daily, this resurgence of travelers has come from a broad range of people.  In Q2 of 2024 59% of travelers were female, with 63% of those being between 18 and 29 years old according to a survey by China Trading Desk. It is also important to note that individuals over 35 made up 20% of travelers. From the same data we can see that 62.35% of travelers are from Tier-One cities as they are young, affluent and want global experiences. Travelers are also well educated with 52.6% holding a bachelor’s degree. Of the respondents, 45% of people wanted to increase their international travel. Europe as a vacation destination has grown to 10.1% of people being interested. There is still a major divide in how people want to travel. While many prefer group travel, 53.8% enjoy independent trips. Digital platforms are the most popular way for people to plan their customized travel! Popular travel apps include Ctrip! With 69% of people booking tickets less than a month before, it can make travel easy. Whether people prefer short or long stays, luxury hotels or a good deal, these apps can help customers meet their various preferences. As the summer season naturally increases tourism, we can see many cities around the world come to life. In a few weeks the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will begin!     As AI continues to be developed and tested, more and more people are trying to take advantage of its benefits. From B2B or B2C businesses, AI is shaping the future. Most people have encountered chatbots when surfing the internet. Did you know that in China these chatbots take on an entirely different form. On the e-commerce platform Tmall, chatbots take the form of cute, nicely-dressed sales associates that offer support to customer needs.  These characters can be customized to fit the branding of the online stores creating unique shopping experiences. For example, the image below shows Holland & Barrett’s, a health and wellness company, Tmall store avatar wearing green overalls. The company believes that new technologies and these avatars will help them be more competitive in China’s e-commerce scene. By 2032, digital avatars will be worth over $682 with a 47.1% annual growth rate according to Vision Research Reports. Digital avatars do not replace traditional staff but rather act as a tool. Real people give data to the chatbots in order to help customers who shop during non-peak hours. Chinese individuals tend to use chatbots more than the rest of the globe in order to best decide what products to purchase.     What is so special about 6.18? 6.18 is the second largest shopping festival in China! Many major e-commerce groups participate in the event including Alibaba’s Tmall and Taobao. With major sales, it is the perfect opportunity to buy new and trendy items. The popularity of this event has continued to increase year after year. The day initially represented the birthday of JD.com, one of the top Chinese e-commerce companies but has since expanded to be a multi-platform festival. Within the first hour, 28 brands had surpassed 100 million RMB and the number continues to grow. This has been particularly promising in the luxury field. Last year, the collective number for all e-commerce platforms was over 798.7 billion RMB. With large numbers like these, billions have been spent by Alibaba to make sure shipments and payments can be made in a timely manner as well as measures being taken to manage website traffic. With all the interest, Alibaba will have two waves of sales with the first starting on May 20 and lasting until June 20. This is a particularly successful time for international brands. According to CNN and Jing Daily, companies like Apple have already set discounts on their newest iPhone and luxury brands like Miu Miu have surpassed last year’s sales record. Nike, Lululemon, Lancôme and many more are also putting out discounts. So far some of the top selling categories include, beauty, luxury, and home goods. The popularity of live streaming has increased sales dramatically. Tmall, after partnering with 200 platforms, saw a 14 times increase in customer engagement. The use of KOLs to sell products has seen great success as many consumers listen to their favorites for the next product recommendation.
