Floxies Community

Thanks to winning the hackathon in Floxies Community, I got the chance to take an Udemy course. It took me a while to choose, but here we are! I’ve just finished the course and can’t wait to learn more about accessibility. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some key takeaways I think could be really useful. Let’s start with some eye-opening numbers: -1 in 12 males and 1 in 200 females have color vision deficiency. That’s a lot of people who can benefit from accessible design! I want to give a shoutout to Liz Brown ★ for this course. I loved it, learned a lot, and I’m excited to apply everything I’ve learned. The phrase “Essential for some, useful for all” really stuck with me.

Your environment matters. Choose spaces that empower your creativity. Creativity thrives in the right environment—but it can be stifled by toxic cultures. As a creative, finding a space (whether that be at an agency or in a community group or industry network) that encourages growth and the sharing of ideas is essential. Toxic environments can limit the potential of a creative mind, whereas a supportive, open culture allows you to push boundaries, be confident in taking risks and ultimately thrive. This was a key takeaway from Process Events in Manchester yesterday. A big thanks to Creative Spark for sharing your process and wisdom. Also, it was fantastic to see PRINT.WORK's work out in the wild—great job! Since moving into a freelance role almost a year ago, I’ve intentionally chosen spaces that challenge and inspire my creativity. I deeply value the opportunity I have had to work with creative agencies that recognise that the right culture is just as important as the work itself—thank you to those agencies, you know who you are! A huge shout-out to the Floxies Community for being an incredibly supportive professional network, always full of motivation and encouragement to be the best creatives and best people we can be.
