    Is your social life sabotaging your fat loss goals? When it comes to fat loss both eating out and alcohol consumption can be your biggest challenges. I encourage all my clients to find balance and enjoy meals out or a drink. I think it’s important for long term sustainable results to be able to do this. But it does mean hidden calories, bigger portions, unmindful eating, inability to track/poor estimation of serving sizes and calories. Which means you need a plan and a strategy in advance to make this work and still stay focused on your fat loss goals! Firstly STOP ✋🏼 telling yourself it’s a cheat meal it isn’t because you know about it and have planned for it. Here’s some of the tips I use with my coaching clients to stay on track whilst socialising ⤵️ 1️⃣ PREPLAN ahead of time. Knowing what you’re doing, where you’re going so you can pick the best meal option and account for it within your calorie budget. 2️⃣ Accommodate enough calories into your daily target for your meal out. Then work out how many calories you have left for that day. Cut back or carbs and fats the rest of the day, keep protein high if possible to boost metabolism. 3️⃣ If it’s a heavy social occasion then introduce some lower calorie days throughout your week to bank extra calories for your social event. But ensure you don’t skip meals. Keep protein high and fats down. Calorie cycling is an effective way of not over eating and sticking to a weekly target instead of a daily target. 4️⃣ Change your mindset. Do not feel guilty for enjoying yourself. Pre planning ensures it’s not cheating… it means you’re in control.     Grab my 3 step formula here ⤵️ Here’s the truth… losing weight and getting lean is pretty damn hard when you reach the age of 40. The reason it’s tougher is because we’re just not the same as we were in our 20’s and 30’s. Our hormones are changing, we have less muscle mass, and the metabolism starts to slow down. Skipping meals or skipping the bun on your burger just isn’t going to cut it now… but here’s what will ⤵️ My 3 step formula has helped 1000’s of women lose their menopause belly, get lean and feel confident again in their clothes 👉🏼 1️⃣ Get your nutrition right. Eat enough good quality protein and spread it out across 4-5 smaller meals. In fact eat enough food, stop skipping meals, fasting or cutting out food groups. Fad diets and low calorie restriction besides making you downright miserable will just slow your metabolism down further and prevent any fat loss happening. 2️⃣ Get your exercise right. Strength train 2-3 times a week with intensity and progression. To get ‘toned’ you need to train to gain muscle . We lose muscle every year after 40. As your hormones decline so does your muscle mass. Avoid HIIT type workouts and instead focus on lower intensity cardio and getting your steps in. Being active every day is key to fat loss. 3️⃣ Get your hormone balance right. This for me is the most important step. If you are doing 1 and 2 but you have high cortisol, low thyroid function and insulin resistance then you’re going round in circles!     One of the biggest mistakes most women make trying to diet and lose fat is not eating enough protein. Protein is the most important nutrient in the body. Even more so over the age of 40 as we naturally lose muscle mass and need to work pretty damn hard to keep it and rebuild it. It is the building blocks of the body. It keeps us fuller for longer. It has only 4 calories per 1g yet we can get so much bang fur our buck choosing protein sources as our priority at each meal.     Ladies over 40…. STOP ✋🏼 looking for quick fixes to lose weight this will not give you the long term results you want. HERE’S WHY ⬇️ I see too many people transfixed with the number on the scales and in search of that number end up in an unhealthy cycle of restriction, binge, repent, repeat. Yes you may lose weight but severe restriction and calorie deprivation will only lead to failure and ultimately weight regain! THE REAL TRUTH 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 ❌ Weight loss DOES NOT equal FAT LOSS!! When we lose weight on the scales this can be water, fat and even muscle if you have your diet and exercise all wrong. ✅ The right diet with the right macros and an optimum daily protein intake alongside a structured strength training program is the best way to lose fat and build muscle. ❌ Being toned does not mean being skinny. Eating as little as possible, restricting calories and food groups will not preserve muscle mass or assist building it. Your physique will suffer! ✅ Being lean means having muscle tissue which you need to build through lifting weights and getting strong and eating a structured balanced diet. Let me ask you a question… 🙋♀️ Will you remember the number of pounds you lost or that you dropped a dress size and looked good in a new pair of jeans a size down?     Ok I’m calling it… women over 35, it’s time you stopped looking for quick fixes ✋🏼🛑 I get it when you want to lose weight, it seems much more appealing to go for a quick fix option such as 16/8 fasting, shake replacements or food elimination diets. Yes you may get weight loss in the short term but this is mainly due to water loss NOT fat loss 💁♀️ BUT here’s the thing… Long term, the stats show us that 95% of people doing quick fix diets put all the weight back on! Really?? Why oh why would you?? Precisely… Fat loss takes time, patience and consistency.     ABOUT ME…. 🩷 Hello hello 👋🏻 to all those new to my page. Just thought I’d take this opportunity to share a few bits about me… My journey didn’t start in fitness, it began in the business world in 1992, when I graduated from Sheffield Poly with a BA HONS in Business and Spanish. I’ve always had a huge love for languages and travel and so this flourished here as I spent 2 years abroad in Spain becoming fluent and enjoying the culture. The buzz to travel further and work internationally was my dream at that time, and so my career began in 1993 with a distribution company now known as DPD. I forged my way to the top of the tree here Internationally devising one of the best customer service systems Europe wide prior to stepping away to fulfil another dream … fitness. And so it began… I qualified as a PT in 1999 then as a nutritionist in 2002, and this is where my passion exploded 💥 I have since spent the last 25 years in the fitness and weight loss industry, the last 6 of which in body building and competing. Helping hundreds of women transform themselves through my programs and coaching. The @girlsgetleanuk brand was created in 2020 in lockdown when my online coaching took off 🚀 I remember speaking at the IWD in 2021 about creating Girls Get Lean and my journey to inspiring women. Little did I know at that time how powerful this would be to catapulting me into winning the British finals. My passion? …inspiring women over 35 to get strong in both mind & body whether that’s on or off stage, I love to work with both lifestyle and competitive clients. My personal goal? …to achieve my IFBB PRO card and continue to push myself in body building. I’m still navigating menopause 🤯 and proud to be 54 years young 👏🏻 So what of the future? … to continue to build my physique and my coaching business.     Aging is a choice… would you agree? As I get older I feel an increasing urge to stay as youthful as possible, but on the other hand, NOT try and be anything I’m not. “Just be you!” The phrase of the century and one I am passionate about right now in both my business and my personal life. But… it’s tricky getting older if you are in this industry, fitness, bodybuilding and bikini world. But I am thankful that it is becoming much less of a stigma despite society ‘labelling’ people by their age. I think I’ll avoid any further milestone birthdays! Becoming British Champion at 52 far outweighs any other age related achievement or the female critics in the corner whispering that I’m too old to be contemplating stage. Says who??? And for my next trick I will be going for gold and my IFBB PRO card. You really are as old as you feel or the glutes you can grow, and mine are still growing!!
