𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥-𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐞 Verallia has inaugurated the world’s largest all-electric furnace for glass #packaging at its plant in Cognac, #France. The new furnace was officially inaugurated on September 10, 2024, in Cognac. The 180 tpd furnace, equivalent to 300,000 bottles, will be mainly used for flagship Cognac brands. This makes it the largest #electric furnace for #glass packaging in the world. Patrice Lucas, CEO of the Verallia Group, said: "We are very proud to be pioneers in this area. It’s our 100% electric furnace, fully illustrating our CSR roadmap and ambitious investment plan to optimise energy consumption at our sites and develop low-carbon furnaces. “This project is a joint collaboration with Fives Group, with whom we have defined new standards for electric melting.” Verallia and engineering group Fives signed a strategic partnership in 2022 to enable Verallia to reduce its carbon emissions. The Prium E-Melt #technology, developed by Fives, is one of the most advanced technologies available to reduce CO2 emissions at plant level. The new furnace reduces CO2 emissions by 60% at plant level, emitting between 12,000 and 14,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. #glassindustry #investment #sustainability #electrification

Lightweight glass bottles - A transformative approach from Vaider’s Steklarna Hrastnik d.o.o. Redesigning bottles to be lighter is an important factor contributing to #sustainability by reducing energy consumption, water usage, and CO2 emissions. At Hrastnik1860, a member of VAIDER GROUP AG, their lightweight initiative extends beyond mere sustainability - it is a #transformative approach that combines customer-driven design changes compatible with their production techniques to enhance overall efficiency and product performance. Redesigning bottles to be lighter #optimizes operational and logistical aspects of glass manufacturing and transport costs. Lighter bottles require less raw material, significantly reducing the energy needed for production. This kind of production also consumes less water, a critical factor in conserving this precious resource. Together, reductions lead to lower operational costs and minimize the strain on resources, directly benefiting clients with cost savings. “Our design studio works closely with customers to create lightweight premium bottles that meet their specific needs while not compromising on brand style” told us Matevž Fazarinc, CEO of Hrastnik1860. The Hrastnik1860 team will be at LUXE PACK Monaco, offering a great opportunity to learn more about their sustainability initiatives as they pioneer new, greener methods for glass production.   More at: https://bit.ly/4el7kA0 #glass #glassproduction #glassmanufacturing #energysaving #green

Mr Sen has been appointed to run the day-to-day operations for Ciner Glass in Europe as the company’s #glass plant projects in #Belgium and #Wales continue to progress. Ciner Glass UK is currently working to build two new modern glass #factories to help increase its glass #production capacity and help serve the European market. The first glass plant will be situated in Lommel, Belgium as part of a €650 million investment. The plant will supply European markets - including beer, wine, soft drink and mineral water - to key European partners. Construction is progressing at speed with the site expected to be completed by 2026. In addition, the company aims to build a new glass container #manufacturing facility which uses recycled glass in Ebbw Vale, Wales, UK. The project would be one of the largest investments in South Wales for decades and would look to supply glass bottles to UK #food and #beverage producers. #glassindustry #investment #construction #appointment

Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe) has secured a deal for renewable #energy supply to its #glass manufacturing operations in Europe from April 2026. It has entered a long-term Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Rezolv Energy’s St. George #solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Bulgaria. The VPPA – one of the first to be signed in Bulgaria – is intended to provide 110 GWh per year of renewable #electricity to AGP-Europe, over 12 years. It complements AGP-Europe’s #renewable energy supply from #wind power, secured in Sweden earlier this year. Together, thanks to their different sources, they are designed to provide AGP-#Europe with a consistent renewable #power #supply throughout the year. The glass manufacturer was supported by Schneider Electric in the VPPA negotiation. Martin Petersson, CEO AGP-Europe said: “We are pleased to have finalised this agreement in just six months, which is largely due to Rezolv’s flexibility, the support and technical know-how of Schneider Electric, and our own experience in this field. “The Bulgarian solar project perfectly meets our aim to diversify the locations of our renewable energy supply and to support emerging energy markets: AGP-Europe benefits from a supply of renewable electricity, while helping Bulgaria’s transition to low-carbon energy.” The solar project will comprise nearly 400,000 #PV panels and will be one of the largest solar projects in #Bulgaria.

Latest innovations from Steklarna Hrastnik d.o.o. 1860 - Electrification of glass melting Sustainability is a key part of Hrastnik 1860's business development strategy, with #innovation being at its forefront. The latest technology from this pioneering company is electrification of glass melting.   The aim of the BEAR project (co-funded by the European Union’s Innovation Fund) is to revolutionise the end-fired regenerative furnace design through hybridisation by increasing the energy share of electrical boosting from the conventional 5-10% of end-fired regenerative furnaces to 40%.   This will enable Hrastnik1860’s production site to reduce its natural gas consumption and related GHG emissions by more than 50%.   This cutting-edge technology makes it possible to use carbon neutral energy sources while maintaining the operational flexibility of conventional regenerative fossil-fuel furnaces.   Their commitment to #sustainability is highly appreciated by their consumers, which is why Hrastnik1860 (a member of VAIDER GROUP AG Group) has planned a 'Sustainability Week' this December.   They have already begun accepting orders from both existing and new clients, offering them the choice of producing their bottles in a hydrogen-powered glass-melting furnace (an innovation we’ve previously covered) or in a hybrid regenerative glass furnace. #hybrid #hydrogen #bottles #furnace #future #technology #glass
