“To build AI systems that are safe, ethical and beneficial for everyone, we need to bring together points of view from fields that may not typically intersect.” Google DeepMind’s senior director of responsibility Helen King shares her thoughts on ways the AI community evaluates its own tools, how this technology might influence human decision-making, and the meaning behind “red-teaming” in POLITICO → https://dpmd.ai/4cIjZMa

We're committed to solving intelligence, to advance science and benefit humanity.
Über uns
We’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority. Our long term aim is to solve intelligence, developing more general and capable problem-solving systems, known as artificial general intelligence (AGI). Guided by safety and ethics, this invention could help society find answers to some of the world’s most pressing and fundamental scientific challenges. We have a track record of breakthroughs in fundamental AI research, published in journals like Nature, Science, and more. Our programs have learned to diagnose eye diseases as effectively as the world’s top doctors, to save 30% of the energy used to keep data centres cool, and to predict the complex 3D shapes of proteins - which could one day transform how drugs are invented.

Taking a moment after a totally positively crazy week in Novi Sad 🇷🇸 to reflect on EEML'24, the flagship AI summer school for the Eastern European region & beyond, which I've personally worked to bring to my home country for the first time ❤️ I tried my best to thoroughly engage with the school's content, from its opening (gave an introductory speech before the Prime Minister of Serbia), throughout its core content (delivered a tutorial on reasoning alongside Matko Bošnjak), all the way through broader outreach (organising EEML's Public Event alongside Milica Brkovic, Nemanja Rakicevic, Dubravko Culibrk, Bojana Ranković, Kristina Nikolić, Branislav Kisacanin and Bosiljka Tasic) and, foremost, the countless interactions and/or mentorship with our exceptional attendees, sponsors and guests. I will not lie, it was thoroughly exhausting. But I loved every single moment! It made me thoroughly proud to see all these amazing academics, students and professionals in AI choosing Serbia as their destination for the past week. EEML gathered participants from all corners of the world -- 47 countries, from Argentina and Costa Rica all the way to South Korea, Singapore and Australia -- while having over 50% of its participants be from our target region (EE). A few personal notes of thanks: Viorica Patraucean and Razvan Pascanu -- for putting their trust in my bid to bring EEML to Serbia; I hope we did not disappoint! Nemanja, Matko, Milica and Elvira -- for their extensive and often-short-notice efforts in making sure we have a smooth event from start to finish! Google DeepMind, Google, Bitdefender and UiPath -- for their highly generous Diamond-level sponsorship! Their support allowed us to cover all needs-based travel grants that our attendees requested. Alfredo Canziani, Sander Dieleman, Yee Whye Teh, Caglar Gulcehre, Chris Dyer, Michael Bronstein and Martin Vechev -- for kindly accepting to visit us in Serbia and share your pearls of wisdom with our attendees and local community. Andreea-Ioana Deac, Ognjen Milinkovic, Ioana Bica, Anastasija Ilic, Aishwarya Kamath, Iulia Duta and Vladimir Viktor Mirjanic -- for putting in a huge amount of effort in designing our tutorials, helping our participants solidify what they've learnt, in partnership with our amazing TAs (Aleksandar Vujinović, Alexandre Galashov, Anđela Mladenović, Andrei Manolache, Gorana Gojić, Hamza Merzic, Mandana Samiei, Marko Njegomir, Marko Knežević, Milica Škipina, Nebojsa Bozanic, Nikola Jovišić, Olga Kozlova, Sharon Lin, Teodor Szente, Tudor Berariu, Vladimir Radenkovic, Vladimir Vincan and Vukan Ninković). Dario Vajda, Dejan Lisica, Kristina Vajda, Krstan Keselj, Marko Milenković, Miona Lukić, Nikola Levakov, Ognjen Kundačina, Polina Maglevannaia, Uroš Drapšin and Zoran Stamenkovic -- last but certainly not least, our volunteer team, who were truly the bedrock of this event, always on-hand to help, be it with complicated logistics or co-forming a winning Estimathon team 🚀
