Over the past 1.5 years, the Committee on Sustainability Assessment (COSA), in collaboration with #SADER and #INIFAP, has conducted an extensive study on the cost of production and actual income of coffee farmers in #Mexico. This research, carried out under the mandate of the International Coffee Organization ‘s #CPPTF and sponsored by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is crucial for understanding the challenges to achieve sustainability in coffee production in the region. The findings provide valuable insights into the realities faced by Mexican coffee farmers and highlight the critical role of pricing in ensuring sector sustainability. The study also identifies opportunities for farmers to enhance efficiency and engage more actively in the value chain. Yesterday, during the high-level panel at the Rimini Meeting, moderated by Gerardo PATACCONI, Chief of Operations at the International Coffee Organization (ICO), we celebrated the signing of a #JointDeclaration between #UNIDO, represented by Managing Director Gunther Beger, and the Inter-African Coffee Organization (#IACO), represented by its Secretary General, Amb. Solomon Rutega. This declaration establishes a robust framework for cooperation between UNIDO and IACO, uniting in our vision to advance sustainable development in Africa’s coffee sector. In the presence of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli; President of illycaffè, Andrea Illy; and Uganda’s State Minister for Agriculture, Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, this milestone is a testament to the longstanding collaboration between UNIDO and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the success of our public-private partnership approach, and the promising foundation we’ve laid for improving the coffee supply chain in #Africa.
