A crown fit for a, er, goat?! 🐐 If you've not seen the news, the rare goat breed, the Golden Guernsey, is being crowned by His Majesty the King! 👑 The breed is to be titled the "Royal Golden Guernsey" from today (16th July) to mark King Charles' first visit to Guernsey as monarch. His Majesty is also patron of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. "Royal titles are granted very infrequently, on the advice of the Cabinet Office with strict standards applied." - Read more about this historic moment for the livestock breed by following the link from BBC News below! 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUD2rQCd #goats #goatherd #goatkeeper #livestockfarming

We've got here in dramatic fashion - the #Ewero 2024 Final! Next up: Spain, and the Latxa! Latxa sheep are a breed from the Basque Country of Spain. 🇪🇸 They are known for excellent quality milk production and their unpasteurised milk is used for producing Idiazabal and Roncal cheeses. 🧀 There are two sub-type breeds, one with a white face, and one with black. ⚪ ⚫ The breed's fleece is white in colour and is long and coarse in both breed sub-types. 🧥 Will England or Spain be crowned the Ewero Champions today? 🤔 #sheepfarming #livestockfarmer #sheep #euro2024

After a close call with the Blacknose Valais in the Quarter-Finals, we advance into the Semis against the Drenthe Heath Sheep of The Netherlands! 🇳🇱 The Drenthe is the oldest breed in The Netherlands, widely considered to have been introduced in 4000 BC by settlers from France. 🇫🇷 The breed is hardy, and can spend its life outdoors where it can thrive on poor, sandy soils such as heathland. 🍃 The name, in Dutch, is Drentse Heideschaap. 🗣️ It is the only Dutch sheep with horns; generally spiral formed in the rams and stick formed in the ewes. 😈 The breed is mainly used for conservation, but it has been documented that the meat is becoming more favourable due to its desirable natural flavour. 🌳 A tough opponent. Will England's #Ewero2024 run come to an end today? 🤔 #sheep #eng #livestock #sheepfarmer #Euro2024

A quarter-final against Switzerland you say? Any excuse to roll out the Valais Blacknose for #Ewero2024! 🐑 The Blacknose sheep originates from the Valais canton of Switzerland. 🇨🇭 They are native to the Upper Valais region, and graze in the Alps in the summer months June-September. ☀️ Their horns are helical or spiral and grow outward from the head in both ewes and rams. 😈 On occasion a purebred Valais Blacknose may produce offspring marked in reverse colour /markings which are referred to as ‘Spitti’! ⚫ ⚪ Will the Valais be strong enough to knock #England out of Ewero 2024? 🤔 #sheepfarming #livestockfarmer
