Inspiring young Londoners to find their best for 45 years. #ThisIsLYG

Über uns

The London Youth Games is a registered UK sports charity. We’ve been inspiring young Londoners to find their best for more than 40 years now, across all 32 London boroughs in 30 different sports. For some of the biggest names in sport, it all started at the London Youth Games. From athletes and coaches to officials and volunteers, we're proud to have known some the UK's greatest sportspeople from the last four decades: Mo Farah, Zoe Smith, David Weir, Rachel Yankey, Dina Asher-Smith, Raheem Sterling and many more. Every year, teams from all corners of London come together to see who will win our Jubilee Trophy – along with five other prestigious awards. It doesn't matter if you’re competing, volunteering or trying out a new sport, there's a place for you and your borough at the London Youth Games. #ThisisLYG

Today we've launched 'Find Your Greatness', a new campaign aiming to identify future Team GB or ParalympicsGB stars from across the nation. The campaign is seeking young athletes for a range of disciplines, including skeleton, cycling, rowing, modern pentathlon, weightlifting, climbing, shooting, volleyball, handball, and all para sports. Our Head of Performance Delivery, Jon Leeder, explains how our approach to athlete recruitment helps maintain breadth and depth in the performance pathways of our Olympic and Paralympic sports, enabling Britain and Northern Ireland continue to field strong teams at the Games.

On Paris 2024 Olympics day 6, we explore which athletes took part in London Youth Games growing up, before they became Olympic athletes. This year, 19 former LYG participants from 12 London boroughs are representing Team GB at the 2024 Games. Hackney-native Noah Williams was introduced to diving in primary school & went on to represent Hackney at London Youth Games 2012-2017. He made his Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020 & at Paris 2024 claimed silver in the Men’s Synchronised 10m Platform final with Tom Daley. After being encouraged by her PE teacher to try diving aged 8, Scarlett Mew Jensen represented Tower Hamlets at London Youth Games 2013-2016 & made rapid progress as a junior. Scarlett won bronze in the women’s 3m synchronised diving with Yasmin Harper for Team GB’s first Paris 2024 medal. 🥉 Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix says it was her mother who got her into diving from a young age. She competed in Diving for Lewisham at London Youth Games 2016-2017 & was only 16 at Tokyo 2020. Andrea & Lois Toulson won a superb bronze in the women’s synchronised 10m platform in Paris. From Lewisham, Alex Yee is proud of the place he was born & raised. As a youngster, he represented Lewisham at London Youth Games 2010-2014 in Aquathlon, Cycling & Cross Country. Alex secured a superb triathlon gold at Paris2024 with a stunning late victory. Read the full article with full list of former London Youth Games participants at #Paris2024: https://lnkd.in/eayun94X
