Working with Defence and Security Accelerator we've awarded £2million of funding to 4 innovative organisations to develop remote site sensing and monitoring technologies. Keeping our sites safe and secure is absolutely critical to delivering our mission and the solutions will explore how we can continue to keep our people and communities safe, and meet our regulatory obligations, through remotely augmenting our existing arrangements. We are continually seeking cutting edge technologies and innovative solutions to enable us to decommission our sites and deliver effectively and efficiently for the public. Last year, the Willie Mackie Skills Hub opened at Ayrshire College. This was partly funded by the NDA and NRS. This facility gives people access to high quality vocational skills training and helps to improve people’s employment opportunities. Since September 2023, over 160 students have completed their course and 13 of these students are already employed as apprentices. #MISSIONmonday #SocialImpact #SkillsHub #Communities

We’ve awarded £30m of funding to drive innovation and research into new techniques to deliver safe, sustainable and cost-effective decommissioning. We’re cleaning up the UK’s oldest nuclear sites which were designed without decommissioning in mind, posing challenges which require first of a kind engineering and technological solutions. Research is an essential part of decommissioning programme and each year we invest £100million in research & development to solve the challenging technical problems more effectively, more efficiently, and, where possible, for less cost.
