Each month we send a newsletter to our clients detailing recent market trends, here's a snapshot of this months article: 𝗛𝟭 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 In the first half of 2024, the recruitment landscape for equity hedge funds remained robust and despite the usual summer slowdown, hiring activity remains strong, indicating continued confidence in long/short equities as the year progresses. Below are what we have experienced to be the most sought-after sector specialisms so far: 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: There was heightened demand for talent due to market volatility, particularly in semiconductors and rapidly evolving software sectors. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀: The insurance sector saw renewed interest, especially in life insurance, following a period of poor performance and regulatory constraints. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿: The UK consumer sector rebounded, leading to increased hiring for specialists to navigate economic challenges. Additionally, we have observed hedge funds adopting more flexible risk management strategies to attract trading talent and , on the Analyst level, there is also a growing trend of using paper portfolios and alpha trackers to assess performance, with some firms integrating these metrics into compensation structures.
