We recently visited Youngs Way in Littlemore, where we’re building 10 affordable, low-carbon council homes on a former depot site. Our housing company OX Place are managing the development, which includes six two-bed and four three-bed semi-detached houses. Work inside is coming along nicely. We expect Youngs Way to be ready for people to move into by the end of the year. Five homes will be let to people on our waiting list. The remaining five will be sold for shared ownership, helping people get a foot on the property ladder. ‘Fabric first’ design, air source heat pumps and solar PV panels mean Youngs Way will be very energy-efficient. The homes are expected to beat our carbon reduction targets by going 87% beyond 2013 building regulations. #OxfordNeedsHomes

This weekend we resurfaced Littlemore/Rose Hill roundabout on Oxford’s Eastern Bypass. The roundabout was closed to traffic from 8pm on Friday until 6am today while the work was carried out using two shifts of surfacing crews. The alternative approach would have seen the work taking place over 15 separate nights of closures. This would have meant more disruption to residents and businesses, increasing the cost, and leading to a potentially poorer standard of work due to more opportunities for water to enter the road surface. Our contractor Milestone Infrastructure also took advantage of the closure to complete other work including: ⚫ High friction surfacing was at Heyford Hill roundabout ⚫ Vehicle restraint barrier work ⚫ Drainage cleansing and investigation work ⚫ Replacing defective kerbing ⚫ Footway work ⚫ Installing new traffic sensor loops.

Our housing company OX Place and Lucy Developments are working in partnership to deliver new low-carbon homes in Marston that will be 100% affordable. Lucy Developments is building 40 homes in Marston Paddock, off Butts Lane. With two terraces and a block built around a central green space, the development will have 26 houses and 14 flats. While initial planning permission included agreement to 20 market sale homes, sale of the site to OX Place (and then on to us) in May paved the way for the entire development to be affordable. The new homes are due for completion in autumn 2025, when we will let 21 as council homes to people on our housing register. The remaining 19 homes will be shared ownership, helping people onto the property ladder in the UK’s least affordable city. Enhanced insulation and air tightness standards mean Marston Paddock is designed to be energy efficient. Air source heat pumps will also provide heating and hot water. These measures mean Marston Paddock is expected to go 56% beyond national carbon reduction targets – exceeding our planning requirement for a 40% improvement on planning regulations.
