#TEAMSELFRIDGES CELEBRATES MANCHESTER PRIDE 🏳️🌈 Over the weekend, #TeamSelfridges team took part in the Manchester Pride parade for the third year in a row. We saw 50 team members come together from across our locations, including Exchange Square, Trafford, London, Leicester and even Scotland, where they used their paid volunteering day to come together and unite in the march for equality. The #SelfridgesManchester team also organised an ‘In Conversation with Matthew Cornford’, Queer Lit and Social Refuge owner, as well as a team member led fashion show. SELFRIDGES VOLUNTEERING MONTH IN ACTION 💛 Throughout August, #TeamSelfridges has been giving a helping hand to our local communities using their paid volunteering days. Our Property & Design team spent the day showing their flair for retail at our charity partner Oxfam's Notting Hill store, leading to record takings for the branch! All the sales driven by #TeamSelfridges will help Oxfam to contribute essentials to those in need, such as two 11,000 litre water tanks or 120 children’s puppet sets to promote hygiene activities. TEAM SELFRIDGES CELEBRATES: SOUTH ASIAN HERITAGE MONTH ✨ Over the last four weeks, #TeamSelfridges marked South Asian Heritage Month with events and experiences across our locations. With the 2024 theme of 'Free to Be Me', we recognised and celebrated South Asian culture, and empowered our extraordinary team members to share their stories. To kick off our celebrations, team members at #SelfridgesBirmingham and our Leicester Head Office experienced a dance masterclass by The Mistry Sisters duo before the store opened in the morning. Meanwhile, at #SelfridgesLondon, the team hosted an event celebrating South Asian culture with music and dancing from Absolute Bollywood, followed by a panel conversation hosted by team members who shared stories of their culture and heritage. IT’S GAME TIME: Hennessy X National Basketball Association (NBA) TAKE THE CORNER SHOP 🏀 It's a slam dunk for Sportopia, Selfridges' celebration of sports this summer, with a new experiential space at The Corner Shop, #SelfridgesLondon. Bounce to The Corner Shop as Hennessy brings the NBA’s sporting spirit to #SelfridgesLondon until 1 September. Customers can step onto the court and practice some free throws or shoot some hoops for a one-minute challenge to compete for a spot on the leader board. Limited-edition, exclusive-to-Selfridges bottles and merchandise are also available to shop, or customers can take time out for a courtside sip at the Hennessy Players’ Lounge. SELFRIDGES VOLUNTEERING MONTH IN ACTION 💛 This month, #TeamSelfridges are busy using their paid volunteering days to help our local communities live brighter. Our Fraud and Financial Crime team last week lent a helping hand to the Penfold Community Hub in London, which offers accessible activities, as well as advice and information, to residents in Westminster aged over 50. The team spent the afternoon weeding flower beds and planting new plants in Penfold Community Hub’s communal garden, making it a beautiful space for its community members. Well done to the Fraud and Financial Crime team - and we can’t wait to see more of #TeamSelfridges getting stuck into our Volunteering Month! Heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali attracted a crowd of hundreds at #SelfridgesLondon in 1976. 3. An ice day – Olympic champion ice-dancing duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean signed their biography at Selfridges in 1983. 4. What a serve: Tennis champion Virginia Wade at a book signing in 1978. 5. A swing and a hit! Cricketer Clive Lloyd and darts player Barry Twomlow posed together in store in 1980.
