    As summer finally arrives, recent reports are also showing a much sunnier outlook for UK businesses as the sense of uncertainty recedes and positivity grows. This week’s Deloitte CFO survey for Q2 underscores this renewed confidence among finance executives which can be seen in their willingness to take greater balance sheet risks. As an increasing proportion of CFOs see credit as more attractive and readily available, many are preparing to increase their capital expenditure and ready their businesses for growth. Despite these optimistic indicators, the persistent skills gap poses a considerable challenge for businesses. This enduring talent shortage is reflected in escalating salaries for new recruits as reported in The KPMG/Recruitment & Employment Confederation jobs report for June and is likely to intensify as economic growth gains momentum.     Deloitte’s latest CFO survey for Q2 is incredibly encouraging. There’s a continued increase in confidence and a sense of optimism amongst finance leaders of the UK’s largest companies.    The results of this survey were released slightly later than previous reports so that it could capture post-election sentiment, and the good news is that a change of government appears to have further boosted belief in prospects for economic growth.    We’re hearing a similar story when speaking to our own clients as demand for finance talent continues to increase in line with this renewed confidence.    TalentEdge North works with large corporates as well as startups and SMEs across the Northwest to help them build strong finance teams to support the business.     For CFOs, the first 90 days in a new role is a crucial window of opportunity for them to assess the challenges, set out a plan of action and establish their reputation.    And if you want to be regarded as a leader who creates value then this is the time to start signalling your intent to both the Board and business:    ➡️Build relationships – not just with the Board, exec team and your team but also with as many other stakeholders as possible.
