💬 “Autumn Institute was intense, but it was rewarding.” 👋 Meet Kyriaki, a Teach First trainee science teacher. She’s sharing her experience on our teacher training programme. “The sessions were packed full with practical advice, teaching strategies and opportunities to practise. “And it improved all of us, improved our skills. “The Summer Institute trainees helped prepare me for what I was about to face, which was especially helpful because I'm from Cyprus and the education system is very different. “I'm in contact with my fellow trainees almost every day. “We've got a group chat where we share what challenges we’ve faced. We help each other a lot.” 🤔 Want to begin your teaching journey this September? ✍️ Apply now and be in the classroom in autumn 2024: https://lnkd.in/eQBM8Xi6

We’re pleased to see the UK government’s focus on improving educational standards in the #KingsSpeech which will break down the barriers to opportunity across the country. Our CEO Russell Hobby said: “Recruiting an additional 6,500 teachers for our classrooms will make a huge difference. “As a first step, we hope to see an increase in trainee teachers' salaries, which could transform the pipeline of talent we desperately need.” To deliver real change, we must prioritise our efforts to schools serving the most deprived communities, where additional resources can help every child fulfil their potential. We look forward to seeing the government’s progress on these commitments.

💬“I enjoyed being able to challenge myself at the same time as fundraising for the charity.” 🏃 Last September, Isabelle joined our #RuntheRiver charity run along the Thames. “I love running but always tend to get out of the habit during the colder months. “I hadn't run a full 5k in years so really needed something to motivate me and a date to work towards! "On the day I ran slowly but steadily and completed the whole 5k." “The final stretch over Tower Bridge was such a highlight. I couldn't believe I'd actually made it!” Isabelle’s connection to our cause made the experience even more meaningful. “I once taught English at several schools across London and have seen first-hand the impact of Teach First's work on schools and pupils. Excellent education should be a right, not a privilege.” 💪🏅 Help children fulfil their potential. Run today. Transform tomorrow. 👉 Sign up now: https://lnkd.in/ek-QYDTU

💬 “Every day I adapt to new challenges, opportunities and interactions.” 👋 Meet Lily a Teach First trainee history teacher. She’s sharing her experience of connecting with other trainees on our teacher training programme. “I had a seasonal job over summer and was looking for the next step. So, I applied to Teach First in July and was teaching by October! “One benefit of joining Autumn Institute was the group of trainees from Summer Institute in my area, who had already established support networks and could offer relevant advice. “It has been excellent having a network of trainees in Cumbria to discuss the programme with. It has provided a great sense of solidarity.” 🤔 Want to begin your teacher training this September? ✍️ Apply by 17 July and join our autumn 2024 cohort: https://lnkd.in/eQBM8Xi6

Today we launch our Insight Briefing capturing the initial impact of career-related learning in primary schools. Our #StartSmallDreamBig pilot programme focuses on three main aims: broadening young people’s horizons, raising aspirations and reducing stereotypes. Four trailblazer Careers Hubs participated in the first wave of the pilot and early indications are showing real promise: ⭐ Career-related learning is increasingly included in lessons (up from 14% to 55%). ⭐ 52% of schools had a formal written careers strategy in place (up from 10%). ⭐ Girls showed increased interest in jobs like law, business and finance, and construction and building; breaking down stereotypes. ⭐ 92% of employers said they were strongly committed to continuing their work with primary schools. With two further waves of the pilot ongoing in additional Careers Hubs, there is more impact data and evidence to come.
