What a beautiful day we had visiting the UK Parliament. Our mentees had a chance to go on tours, into the gallery, have a panel discussion and network with MPs. I am incredibly grateful to our fabulous sponsor Jessica Morden MP and her formidable team who went above and beyond to provide us with a most memorable experience. Thank you so very much to Stephen DoughtyMP and Liz Saville Roberts MP for so kindly agreeing to share insights on their work as well as to MPs who made it to the networking session. So grateful for their continuous support. To our amazing mentees, thank you so much for coming and so grateful to Folkert Veenstra Dev Bambhania Ceri Reed Sheryl Njini and Rebecca Goodhand for so eloquently speaking on their lived experiences. And finally, a huge thank you to team EPEV Equal Power Equal Voice Cymru for their relentless and dedicated work behind the scenes. Empowering young people to achieve their goals by connecting them with inspirational mentors in a range of industries. 🌟🌟 (Views my own)
This International Women’s Day I had the privilege of working with some of our wonderful mentors at The Girls' Network for the final part of a workshop series at one of our East London schools. The mentors shared their career journeys and gave some wonderful insights into the working world. The mentees also asked some really interesting questions - my favourite being “don’t be shy, how much money do you make?” (It’s important that we don’t shy away from conversations about money/compensation at work!) The mentors and mentees then engaged in some very meaningful discussions on issues impacting women today, such as inclusivity of women and girls in sport, body image in the media, and the safety of women and girls in public spaces. The mentees had so many interesting and mature responses to these big topics. I want to thank the Women's Equality Network (WEN) Wales for sharing their invaluable IWD schools’ toolkit with us. This is where I found these interesting and important discussion points and prompts. This was a truly lovely way to spend IWD and I really appreciate our mentors for giving up their time to come and speak to the mentees. A massive thanks goes to: ✨Farrah Brown ✨Saumya Ailawadi ✨Siobhán McElligott ✨Theodora YEUNG ✨Tiina Kanerva Another special thanks to the Women's Equality Network (WEN) Wales for sharing their resource - it’s great for charities to support charities! 💜 #internationalwomensday2024 #thegirlsnetwork #womensequalitynetworkwales #womensupportingwomen
