Students from the University of Malta joined Wintech Façade Engineers on an inspiring tour of the OlympiaUK redevelopment in London. The Architecture and Civil Engineering students observed the latest progress in the transformational project on which Wintech are providing Façade Engineering services for clients Laing O'Rourke.    The Olympia Exhibition Centre has been a London landmark since its opening in 1886 and is currently being developed into a world-leading arts, events, and entertainment centre with an increased focus on community and shared spaces. This will include a new public space realm, to bring new life into one of London’s most iconic heritage sites. Wintech has been providing façade consultancy services for Laing O’Rourke for the entire development which comprises seven very different buildings, including a theatre, music venue, exhibition space, two hotels, education facilities, office space and public commercial spaces. Wintech has also delivered full detailed design for select packages of façade work and continues to support Laing O’Rourke throughout the construction phase of the project. The students were accompanied on the Archivisit experience by Wintech Façade Engineers Clyde Abela, Paola Modina and Simone Lazzaroni. • At Wintech, we are deeply committed to the well-being of our staff, we believe a healthy and happy team is the foundation of our success. This week, we had the pleasure of reinforcing this commitment and had the pleasure of attending a CPD session led by expert Richard Taylor PT on his recent journey to Okinawa—an island recently recognised as a Blue Zone, one of the few places on Earth where people live the longest. Richard introduced us to the fascinating principles, diet, and lifestyle practices of the Okinawan community, shedding light on how we can enhance our own quality of life and longevity. From learning about the importance of community and purpose to the benefits of nutrient-rich foods like the purple sweet potato, our team was thoroughly engaged and inspired. A huge thank you to Richard Taylor for delivering such an informative and engaging session, helping the team take steps towards healthier, longer lives. ⭐ PROJECT COMPLETE ⭐ Briggs & Forrester Special Projects have recently completed the mechanical and electrical services installation on the B084/B085 Hangar Decarbonisation project at Cranfield University alongside R G Carter and CDG. The refurbishment will improve the energy efficiency and carbon footprint of the 4200m2 hangars built in 1936 for preparation for WWII. They are now used by the University for research and maintenance purposes. Briggs & Forrester completed the full design and build works for the £2.5m electrical, mechanical and plumbing services package to the hangars, which alongside the insulation and other structural elements helped to transform the thermal performance and reduce the overall heating demand of the hangars by 85%. Services include the installation of new district heating pipework to the plate heat exchangers with associated valves, control and pumps within the plantroom and a specialist Jetflo air induction heating system in the hangars. In addition, Special Projects completed the LED and emergency lighting, controls and BMS interface, and electrical power supplies including incoming supplies to plant and small power within the two hangars. The works were partly funded by the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme which is run by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and delivered by Salix. #construction #engineering #buildingservices #MEP #decarbonisation

  • On Earth Overshoot Day, we want to highlight the importance of measuring the embodied carbon of buildings to reduce their carbon impact and increase circularity. Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. It is a symbolic representation of how human consumption outpaces the planet’s ability to replenish its natural resources and absorb carbon dioxide emissions. While progress has been made in reducing the operational carbon of buildings, embodied carbon remains the largest source of emissions in new buildings. According to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the façade alone can account for 10-31% of a building’s embodied carbon. Wintech’s accredited CPD on Embodied Carbon provides a comprehensive and up-to-date comparative assessment of a range of façade typologies, enabling informed choices from the outset. Additionally, we focus on the fundamental principles of embodied carbon in the context of façades, emphasising the mantra: build nothing, build less, build cleverly, build efficiently, and minimize waste before considering the use of low embodied carbon materials and, finally, offsetting. Take a look at the range of CPDs Wintech have to offer and get in touch for further information today: https://lnkd.in/e62eviVW #EarthOvershootDay #MoveTheDate #sustainability #WeAreWintech
