"Water is life, and clean water means health." In honour of World Water Week, we’re spotlighting Dar’s work in southern Luanda, Angola. Cristóbal Martínez. Head of Environment in our London office, explains more. 🚰 In recent decades there’s been a significant urban expansion in Angola’s capital city of Luanda, and an ever increasing population makes higher water demands. Dar is honoured to project manage the development and fulfilment of the Bita water project on behalf of the Luanda Public Water Company (EPAL – Empresa Portuguesa das Águas Livres, SA). “With a total of 900,000 direct beneficiaries in a first phase, the project will have huge social impact and value, with the potential to ultimately deliver clean, safe water to up to 2 million people,” says Cris. Dar is also ensuring compliance with Angolan and The World Bank Environmental and social safeguard standards. This includes the development of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for all Bita system components, as well as overseeing the project’s E&S performance during pre-construction and construction. With its resources and, most importantly, with the vibrant momentum of its young and ambitious generations, Africa is playing an ever more significant role in global affairs. And for over 55 years, Dar has been proudly supporting communities across the continent in designing and building the infrastructure they need to expand that role. 📣 ICYMI, the 27th issue of the Dar Magazine, “Standing Tall: Resilient Structures, Sustainable Futures”, featuring the story of Egypt's New Capital Central Park, one of the world’s biggest new parks, is now available online. The Park runs through the spine of one of the world’s biggest construction projects, the creation of a New Administrative Capital for Egypt. A first for Egypt and Africa, it aims to serve as the cultural, social, and environmental heart of this new smart, resilient, and sustainable city in the desert. New Capital Central Park not only provides a net gain for Egypt’s ecology by transforming degraded desert into a usable and sustainable environment, it adds biodiversity, functionality, and meaningful social interaction where there was none. “The Park is a place of relaxation and recreation, a vital sanctuary for numerous plants and animal species, and a natural treasure for future generations to come.
