Aviation industry mobilised in the fight against coronavirus
Airports, air navigation service providers and airlines, not to mention the air and ground manufacturers have all been hit incredibly hard by the coronavirus pandemic. As the industry continues to grapple with the fall-out from the pandemic, its operations remain essential to fighting the virus. The SESAR Joint Undertaking is proud of its members who are actively supporting efforts across Europe to tackle the pandemic. Here is an overview of just some of their initiatives.
U-space SESAR projects present preliminary results on drone integration
On 28 and 30 April, SESAR JU organised a series of webinars bringing together representatives from the recently closed U-space projects to present their preliminary results. Over 1,400 joined the webinars altogether, which were organised within the framework of the SESAR Digital Academy. The sessions provided an overview of the concept of operations developed for U-space, as well as research and demonstration work addressing critical communications, surveillance and tracking, information management and exchange, detect and avoid, and CNS technologies.
 
Call for contributions to the 10th SESAR Innovation Days
This year’s SIDS will be hosted by HungaroControl and take place at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary from 7-10 December. The SIDs are based on an open call soliciting contributions from ATM research.
 
Calling young scientists: Applications open for SESAR Young Scientist Award 2020
Are you a young scientist active in the field of air traffic management (ATM) and aviation? Are you looking for the perfect opportunity to showcase your talent and advance your career? If yes, then look no further… the SESAR Young Scientist Award is for you!
 
Still time to apply for the SESAR JU demonstration call
The SESAR Joint Undertaking has launched an open call for very-large scale demonstration projects within the framework of the SESAR 2020 research and innovation programme. The call covers a wide range of topics aimed at boosting the performance of aviation in Europe, with a focus on sustainability, capacity and urban air mobility. A total of EUR 19.5 million is earmarked for this research from the EU’s Horizon 2020 budget.
New submission deadline: 16 June 2020.
