Virginia National Guard Soldiers paid tribute to the valor, fidelity and sacrifice of the U.S. and Allied Forces who participated in the June 1944 invasion of Normandy and commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day at multiple events on and around June 6, 2024, in France, Virginia and Louisiana.

VNG’s 192nd Wing to receive 2022 Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award

The Virginia National Guard’s 192nd Wing is one of 14 Air National Guard units to receive the 2022 Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award, according to an announcement made April 4, 2024, by Lt. Gen. Michael A. Loh, Director of the Air National Guard at National Guard Bureau.

The Virginia National Guard officially said goodbye to the 1940th and 1945th Contracting Teams Aug. 10, 2024, during a small ceremony at the 329th Regional Support Group headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Cooper's journey of grit and growth at ARNG's Best Warrior Competition

For five arduous days, Sgt. Carter Cooper, one of the top National Guard Soldiers in the nation, tackled challenge after challenge at the 2024 Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition, held Aug. 4-8, 2024, at the Ethan Allen Firing Range near Jericho, Vermont. Cooper was one of 14 competitors culled from the nation’s seven regions.

Contractors use a crane to hoist empty rail tank cars and place them on flat-bed trucks for transport to the Petroleum Operations Sustainment Tactical Training area in support of the Fort Gregg-Adams-based 94th Training Division Aug. 22, 2024, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. The rail tank cars will enhance and expand 92F Petroleum Supply Specialist training on Fort Barfoot and mitigate training gaps identified by the Army. Moving the cars safely from the rail head in Fort Barfoot’s cantonment area several miles to the petroleum training area took a combined effort from contractors, 94th TD, FORSCOM and Fort Barfoot’s Directorate of Public Works. Read more about Fort Barfoot at https://ngpa.us/25024.

After years of planning, the U.S. Forces Command added two rail tank cars to their Petroleum Operations Sustainment Training program, or POST, in support of the Fort Gregg-Adams-based 94th Training Division to enhance bulk fuel supply training efforts Aug. 23, 2024, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia.

Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia, made a series of senior leader assignment announcements for command, Virginia National Guard Joint Staff and Virginia Army National Guard Staff positions July 16, July 30 and Aug. 6, 2024.

On the 86th anniversary of his passing, a former Virginia National Guard Soldier’s grave receives a plaque commemorating his service and sacrifice thanks to the efforts of the Virginia National Guard’s Enlisted Association and Historical Foundation during a ceremony Aug. 3, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia.  Pfc. Claude J. Bohannon was assigned to the Norfolk-based Bravo Battery, 111th Field Artillery Regiment in 1938, when an unfortunate accident involving a tank ended his life during his unit’s annual training. Despite an investigation concluding his death was in the line of duty, his gravesite in Richmond had no recognition of his sacrifice or military service.
