The breakout star of S.S. Rajamouli’s 2023 Oscar and Golden Globe winner “RRR” was born into a film family, with his late grandfather — N.T. Rama Rao for whom he was named — being one of India’s most revered actors and well-known politicians. He debuted as a child actor in 1991 with “Brahmarshi Viswamitra”, written, directed and produced by his grandfather, and as a leading man with 2001’s “Ninnu Choodalani.” His breakthrough came that year with Rajamouli’s “Student No. 1,” and they would go on to work together in “Simhadri” (2003) and “Yamadonga” (2007).
